In my 2001 frontier 4x4, when im going between 50-60 I feel a vibration in the truck, almost like a humming noise. I have replaced the U-joints, had tires balanced, alignment done, replaced rear-end fluid and added possie-traction additive. I have read in some other forums that the trannys start to make noises around certain speeds. Is this true? The truck has 165,000 miles on it, and still running strong. I have never touched the tranny, other than to check the Fluid.

Maybe the wing is causing wind turbulence to create a vibration????? Auto or std trans, how about the transfer fluid, two piece drive shaft?? If it is a two piece shaft, and the center carrier has been replaced, the two shafts may not be in the same phase????

Its not the wing because the cover is not on the truck all the time. Only for the winter to keep the snow out of the bed. There is only the one drive shaft in the back. And I have never replaced any drive shaft. I am the origianl owner. So I know whats been done to the truck. Does the transfer case have separate fluid from the tranny? I know some setups have the tranny and the tansfer case connected and share the same fluid.

Transfer uses ATF with a seal at the input shaft to keep it separate from transmission, although I have seen fluid flow from the transfer into the transmission. The rear of a man trans has no seal(only the housing contains the fluid), on an auto transmission there is a seal on the output shaft.
