Looking for tire recommendations for my 05 Frontier 4 X 4.  I do not do any off-roading except for sand on the beach, and I can get around that by letting out about 1/2 the air and going no faster than 30 mph.  I do need tires that will handle snow, alot of rain, and be stable enough to pull a heavy trailer.  So far, I've had the General Grabbers and Pirelli Scorpions ATR.  The Generals were just awful, particularly in wet conditions.  The Pirellis handle much better, but still aren't all that for wet traction either.  Are there any of our readers who ARE pleased with the tires they have?  Anyone highly displeased with the brand they DO have?  Thanks in advance, gentlemen.

dannyg from FL I have a set of michlin LTm/s on mine the only wine I have about them is they do`nt pull well in reverse. The regular Pro comp AT I seen them do very well in sand but it was on an light weight jeep . Also the extreams that procomp makes are good. The factory tires on mine were bfg long trail great tire for 6-8,000mi then they seemed to go to hell .Cooper tire seem to be good and the MTX Micky Thompsons heard from other do not know if they are still made. Tire rack is a good source for tire reviews and do an online look for off road magazine like petersens 4x4 and 4wheel and offroad ore two that I know of. Good luck

There is always the Goodrich All Terrain KO.  Pricey but they are available in both 265-70/16 and 265/75/16 sizes for a non-modded truck.  A bit loud but they will take you through deep snow, sand, dirt and all types of highway conditions.

I agree with you on the General Grabbers.  They were oem on my 1st Frontier (4x2).  I bought another set (strictly on price) after the 1st set went.  I will say that they were decent on wet roads for the 1st 10K miles (I guess any new tire would be), but went south quickly after.  In fact TireRack, refunded some money on the 2nd set per the mileage guarantee.  Each set lasted less than 28K miles.  I did replace them with a set of Goodyear Forteras which I felt were pretty surefooted in wet conditions.  They were wearing a lot better as they were in good shape when I sold my 2001 Frontier; the tires had 22K.  I was living in Atlanta at the time, and drove pretty aggressively.

I have BFG Rugged Trail t/a’s which are oem on my NISMO.  27K miles, and the tires are in great shape.  I don’t drive nearly as aggressively as I did when I was in GA which prolly has a lot to do with it.  I have traction control which probably helps too (no spinning tires).  This will be my 2nd winter (Midwest) with them, and have no complaints as far as them being an everyday tire on a truck.

A friend of mine runs the Procomp A/Ts as well, and he likes them.

I'd recommend either the Firestone Destination A/T or the Bridgestone Dueler A/T Revos.  I personally have the Revos; they are great but I probably should've saved a little money and went with the Destination A/T.  Everything I've read says that the Destination A/T holds its own against the BFG A/T KO and the Dueler Revos.

If all you do is sand & snow, you could probably do fine with the Rugged Trails.  Supposedly the non-factory ones are better then the factory Nissan ones.
A friend of mine has them, we go to the beach together.  He doesn't have any problems. Naturally I have more grip with the A/Ts, but he doesn't have very much slippage, and certainly isn't getting stuck.

I recently got the BFG All Terrain KO's, and I love them! I had the General Grabbers before- they were horrible. The BFG's are a little louder, but not much. I have 2k miles on mine so far, but several people I know have gotten 60k and more on them. They provide great traction in most conditions, and I love the aggressive look they give my truck. Good luck.

BFG AT KOs are a favorite among a lot of different vehicles.  A bit loud, but about the best all around tire there is for a truck.

One to possibly check on is Toyo Open Country MTs.  A Mud Terrian, but they were quiet, excellent ride, and last for quite a while.

BTW, if you go for Pro Comp, I would check here before you spend the extra money for the name brand.  Not only do they carry Pro Comp patterns, but some others as well, Michelin is one I believe.

Thanks for the info on private label tires.  I almost forgot about going that route.  I bought private labels for my Honda Accord one time, they were reasonably priced, performed well, and lasted a really long time. I sold the car with the private labels on them, so I don't know how long they really lasted.
