Anyone done this on their own?  How difficult?  Should I take it and pay someone to do it?

nevermind...found a photo guide to doing it on this forum. Did it myself in about 5 minutes.  More fodder for not trusting the dealership: I called Continental Nissan in Anchorage and asked the service department for an estimate, from 1-10 of the difficulty and how much time it would take.  They said it was a 6 and would take a half hour.  Absolutley false.  I can see them missing the estimate by a little, after all, it's just an approximation, but the fact that this was so much easier than they portrayed, reinforces what I suspected, these guys will lie to make money.  I was just as easy as putting on new wiper blades and much easier than replacing a headlight bulb.

Maybe he thought about it like if you were a customer of the shop it would take longer than that. The mechanic has to walk 50 yards to go get your truck, drive to his stall, take it apart, go to the parts department for the parts needed, install the part, put it all back together, take the truck back to the parking lot, come back, fill out the paperwork then turn in the work order. That would take 30 minutes if he didn’t stop by the coke machine.

Have a good one while you can still laugh about it.. Don S..

Obama and Biden will attack the agreements between states to accept each others conceal and carry permits.

Alldataonline allows .4 hr for this operation, this is a guide line to establish reasonable labor charges for repairs. Some days you eat the bear, some days the bear eats you. The fact is, there has to be some guide to establish times or shops could charge whatever they want. And yes they do take into consideration everything involved in the job.

Understand the need for a universal time estimate, but to be this far off of the actual time taken to make the change is indicative of purposeful effort. The fact that the increased time results in more profit for the service department leads me to conclude that on some level they pad their estimates for profit.  Frontierguy's post supports this by reporting an alldataonline estimate that is lower than that the service department gave me.   I'm not handy at all...the polar opposite of a gearhead and this took me 5 minutes to do.

On my wife's L-300 Saturn sedan, it took me exactly 30 seconds to open the filter area, remove and replace the cabin filter and close it back up.  Dealer wanted $60 to do this.  The mechanic is about 10 feet away from the parts counter.  The dealer has a BIG sign in the service area about this labor charge for the filter replacement.  Almost as if they are saying "Do this one yourself."

I do the Frontier myself and have it down to under 5 minutes.

Try doing one on an 04 Quest, you have to literally stand on your head to do it.(at least I do anyway!!!)

I did mine a while back and the little tab that holds the door on broke off. I had to get a u-clip to fasten it with a screw. The old ones weren't that dirty but the inside still gets dusty. Just kinda in a hard place to see anything.
