Hello everyone,
I'm new to the list. I do not own a Frontier yet but took one for a test drive yesterday. It was a 09 Se 4x4 crew cab. I am current a Toyota guy with a 05 Tundra. I have always liked the look of the Frontier and it seems pretty hard to beat the reviews in The Lemon-Aid Guide. But there has always been two things that kept me from buying. The first is the ride. When I took the Frontier out yesterday the ride was so hard I felt every line in the road. When I went on a gravel rode near my place the rear end shot out side ways when I hit a rough patch and pounded my kids in the back seat, extremely unforgiving . The second is the size. The 05 Tundra's are what I call a 7/8 truck (large mid size). The bed is 75" L and 48" between the wheel wells. the 09 Frontier bed is 72" L and 45-46 " between the wells. So my question is..... The ride. Is this standard for the truck, being that hard?
I liked everything else about the truck I just wish Nissan would add the few more inches to be the same as my 05 Tundra. That was a perfect size, a large mid size but not quite full size and not huge. The new Tundra's are huge.

My 07 Crew Cab SE 4WD is VERY comfortable. I took it to Canada on a hunting trip[ and drove over 200 miles on gravel roads with no issues. Does this truck have some type of special shocks? Were the tires overinflated? I would probably suspect the latter. Mine has the Long Trail P-rated tires that require 35 psi. Friends have test driven cars at dealers aand found that the tires (in one case) had almost 80 psi in them.
I'd go back with a tire gauge and check.

Hell wait for a second here the frontier has a 6500 tow rating were tundra only has a 7000. Were i`m comming from the frontier is lighter than a tundra by 1200 or so pounds but are almost the same tow rating

I'm not sure what the set up was. I plan to take another out for a drive from another dealer. I want the same ride that I get in my Tundra. Or at least close. I don't think it had special shocks. It was just an SE package. When I go to the other dealer I will ask a few more specific questions. I'm suspecting (hoping) a set-up problem. I felt the motor has ample power and the transmission shifted very smooth. We also thought the seats were comfortable and the controls were simple and straight forward. Nice truck.

Have the dealer set the tire pressures to 35# before you drive it. When they are unloaded from the factory, they have about 45-50 # in them.

I just took the wifes Camry in for servicelast week... Looked closely at the Tacomas... They are large but not built in the U.S.A. by American workers. The Tundras are built in Texas but not the Tacomas.

Kas1963: Why are you so hot to get rid of your 3 year old Tundra when you sound so satisfied with it? IMO, you won't get the same ride quality from a Frontier. When I bought my '07 XE KC I almost went with the Tacoma (I test drove the old Tundra as well) primarily because of ride comfort. Frontiers are what I call "stiff-legged" and don't react very well to divider strips and pot holes.
Lakota: Tacomas are built in Fremont, CA (possibly in Canada too). I know because I've been on the factory tour twice. It's a blast!

SORRY to say,
But why would the sticker required buy law on the 2009 Tacoma say it was made in Mexico? ahhhhhhhhhhh maybe it was the only one...

I'm not completely sure, but I think all SE 6 cylinder models have a 4x4 suspension, like the older Desert Runners from around '02. That would make for a stiffer ride.
I've got an '07 SE that rides a HELLUVA lot rougher than the '02 XE I had previously.
