So what do you think of the new Suzuki Equator (which is really a Nissan Frontier)? They debuted it last month at the Chicago auto show. I think it looks great with the minor changes Suzuki has done, but it is still a Nissan Frontier built at the Nissan Factory in North America. Makes you go hmmmmmm...

I like it.  If I didn't have so much $ in my mods, I would trade in my fronty.  Not sure on pricing, but warranty will be much better.  The upside would be that hopefully there will be more aftermarket stuff when the equators come out.

Saw an article in the Wall Street Journal this AM (3-24) that said Nissan's small truck factory is only running at 65% capacity which is not a tolerable situation for long.  Also the article noted they are trying to set up a relationship with an American manufacturer since their attempt to work with GM fell through.  Explains the Suzuki/Chrysler news recently.

WOW the interior is almost exactly the same. On that movie there were a few times I thought it was my truck goin past. The front looks more like a dodge or maybe yota, but the body is clearly Nissan.

What about the warranty with Suzuki that would be better. I thought Nissan's have a decent warranty on them a it is. I got a used one that was certified so i am good till 100k  does Suzuki do the same?

Yeah, they should stick to making bikes. Nissan should buy and re-badge their Hayabusa, that would be bad ass! It would make about as much sense as them re-badging the Frontier.

This is a shame...I personally don't like the rebadging much yet, I don't know why...but it makes me wonder, why would they be doing this? I see Frontiers all over the place, new ones that is. However I have also heard that Toyota is cutting back on production on the Tundra for sure and I am not sure about the Tacoma...they must not be selling as well as they want either. Again, I see them all over the place.

Could this  be backlash from gas pricing, people just fed up with feeding their trucks? There will always be the diehard people who will buy a truck, and in teh full size market..as much as I like the Titan, the Ford and GM's (Chevy/GMC) have been on top for a looong time, so it will take some time to make a significant dent in that history for the relative newcomer's to the full size market.

Nissan and Toyota have both held a large share in the small truck market for a long time, it leads me to believe that people are just having a hard time thinking about feeding these beasts for the long haul, 4-bangers being the exception.

I had heard some scuttlebutt about quality issues with Toyotas creeping up, which they (Toyota) stated as a direct correlation with expansion, and some peeps saying that the rearends on some of the Nissans are having trouble. I know that this might be convoluted threading, but opinions?

Personally, I love my 04 because it was the last year for the old  "tried and true" Hard Body chassis. Those trucks are basically bullet proof.  They are very versatile and (at least the 2.4) get damn good gas mileage for a truck. It will take a while for the new Frontier's to earn the reputation that the old ones had. Its big shoes to fill, and it will take a while to get the kinks out but Nissan seems to be working quickly.

I do think it is kind of sad that nissan has to sell and re-badge its Frontier to get the sales up and keep the factory going.

I also think that people are getting fed up with feeding these big trucks. Nissan should have kept the frontier a "light" truck and not go with Mid-size. But that doesn't say I don't like the new frontiers. I think they are awesome, but they don't get as good gas mileage as the ones.

But thats just my two cents. Please note, Im not saying the new models are crap. They are damn good trucks, they just need time to really prove themselves as "bullet proof" 300,000 mile work horses that the old ones are. Give them a few years and I believe that they will!
