2007 Frontier CC LB 6 Speed LE
The turning radius is poor but I was made aware of this reading consumer
reports before purchasing.

BAD.
I would have happily spent the extra $1600 for a SE with 17" wheels,
onboard comp. etc, etc. but wanted a manual shift and did not like the
painted bumpers that scratch far too easy.

When new the truck wandered around on the highway. I posted my
concerns here and noticed others also had the same experience, got little
feedback. Never had the dealer check alignment as the tires were wearing
very evenly.I seemed to get used to it over time or it has settled in as it no
longer is as big an issue.

I drive 20 miles each way to work between 6 and 7000' elevation. 80%
highway. Average gas mileage was 22/23 for the first 2 months.I drive
conservatively but do pull up two 1000' hills in each direction. If I have a
tail wind I get up them in 6th gear otherwise its 5th @ 65/70 mph but still
just under 3000 rpm. I got a shell thinking MPG would improve being
more aerodynamic. WRONG it got worse, 21-mpg. Only reason I guess is
the extra weight? Now running my heater 24/7 it has got worse again and
I am just below 20-mpg. My Boss has the old style Chev avalanche and
gets 18-mpg. Frontier gas mileage is VERY POOR. I read many who say it
will improve after breaking in. So far mine is only getting worse.

I am getting strange noises from the front end when hitting SMALL bumps
in the road. Going over the 1 inch curb/gutter turning into driveways
there is a loud thud? I have just read other similar complaints on this
forum. In the summer only after being in the sun all day it had a few
irritating rattles in the drivers door/dash.

From reading this forum It seems like Nissan does not deal with blatant
issues as well as they should. As the old saying with many US auto's
goes..."your auto is only as bad as the dealership"

GOOD
I have driven in 5 blizzards without needing 4WD! This truck goes so
much better in the snow than the many Subaru's I have owned. I have only
once used 4WD to familiarize myself with it, not because I needed it. Last
fall I took it on dirt roads on a mountain biking trip to Fruita CO. It rides
very well on rough dirt surfaces.

I did not like the integrated stereo in the Toyota Tacoma. I had an Alpine
head unit installed that controls and charges my Ipod and runs XM radio.

Power is more than adequate for me and the ride is comfortable and quiet.

I get free oil changes and tires from the dealership. There is a catch on
the tires! You must pay for their scheduled maintenance which will run
about $600 up until 40000 miles. I figure I will need tires before that and
you get a $900 allowance towards tires of your choice. So pay for the
Maintenance and get free tires!

Conclusion.
I saved $6K not getting the Tacoma and still think I made the right choice.
Tacoma's are nicer looking, get better gas mileage, are faster but the 6
grand I saved will buy a lot of gas! So I must live with the Frontier's
problems and hope more do not develop over time. Please excuse any bad grammar and spelling and let me know how you are liking your Frontiers.

Now I'm in a different boat, I'm here because I'm looking to buy within the next two years and trying to gather as much information about both trucks as possible.

Coming from an F250 CC FX4 Lariat with all options so I'm planning on spending around 30k either way.  I defiantly don't to rub anyone the wrong way but to Mike and others.  If you had 30k budget for a vehicle knowing what you know now would you go for the Tacoma or the Fronty?

..

CajunJosh;

Welcome to the group. And good thinking!

I am also a member of a Toyota group.

... These sites attract many people seeking help and advice to solve problems with their trucks. When you read of these problems it is enough to scare you away from what ever brand you are reading about. I almost bought a ’98 4x4 V-6Tacoma. With hind sight I’m happy I got a ’99 4x4 V-6 Frontier… saved a ton of money and Zero problems!.

... We just got the wife an ’08 Camry and I’m worried that I should have got an Altima… I’m still slapping my face. The ’07 camry’s were not all that good… hoping they got all the bugs out for the ’08 models! So far - so good.

Have a good one while you can still laugh about it.. Don S..

Higher fuel mileage? We need a government study to show the benefits of making ethanol from Marijuana and Agaves plants.

Alas .. Probably be more suicides from those trying to die by exhaust fumes.

Aloha all,

I did a bunch of research and test driving of all manner of small trucks before buying my 07 CC LE.  I spent right at $21K for one that didn't have much more than the standard LE features.

Here's what I found:

Honda Ridgeline - Most expensive model in class.  The interior was not what I'd hope for in the way of appointments-ultra plastic.  The body had some interesting features such as an in-bed 'trunk' and the fact that the cab was one with  the bed made the truck feel firm. (Initially if felt funny?)  Its extreme size and cost ruled it out early.

Chevy Colorado/Isuzu I-290/340 - Aside from the salesman being an idiot, the trucks seem to be comfortable and the inline-5 engine had enough power.  One thing I noted was very rough shifting ofthe tranny and a very stiff suspension. The idiot told me that's how all trucks feel. Didn't like the dealership enough that the truck wasn't a candidate for my driveway.

Toyota Tacoma - I liked it. It rode well, looked good; inside and out and the prices quoted were in the range of what I thought I'd have to spend on a Frontier.  Had good luck with other Toyota products (Lexus) so I was thinking it might rub off on the trucks.  Killer was, my wife didn't like the raised 'nose' on the hood; said she couldn't judge where the front bumper was... (Shades of those lighted sticks and curb feelers came to mind...)

Nissan Frontier - The writing on the wall was clear.  These were the trucks my wife liked.  Now the questions were directed to XE, SE, NISMO or LE?  -  LC or CC?   The XE a good run-about - inexpensive truck.  Fleet users choose the XE. Most on the lot have manual everything and can go with a $12-14K price tag.  The SE seemed to be an XE with a bigger engine.  Same ride, same interior, more power.  Most of the SEs on the lot though, had upgrades for the windows and wipers etc. making them more 'polished'.  The NISMO is a sport truck.  Rough noisy ride - usually packed with all the options - but made for the off road.  Lastly the LE.  I especially liked this model because it had a smoother ride than the SE or NISMO, a touch of leather (Not all leather) a good sound system and other comfortable touches.  I should have gotten it with the 6-CD stereo, not so much for that feature but for the iPod connectivity.

Bottom line: All vehicles have pops and rattles eventually.  Gas milage, Engine perfomance and Truck capabilities are three distinct discussions that are almost impossible to comment on two of them - without impacting on the third.  I'm happy with my Frontier but would have surely been happy with the Tacoma too.

Only one question about your review, you stated that the Tacoma's are faster? In what regard, they both are 4.0L V6's but the Tacoma last time I saw only had 236HP vs the 261HP of the Frontier and the Torque was also less than the Frontier's. i would bet the frontier is heavier from what i've seen, but not enough to make it a slow pig. Just curious as to where that information is coming from. Interestingly EPA estimates show the frontier's having better mileage at least on autotrader.com but EPA estimates are just that, estimates and not always reflected in real-world driving.

I bought an 07 Frontier SE with auto, V-6 and coated bed, Utilitrack, heated rear window (defrost) with Power package and a convenience package (electric windows, locks , etc).   It also has the bed divider and the bed extender with side step rails that help my wife (has arthritis) get into the truck. I went with the SE as I hunt, wanted four wheel drive, 16" wheels/tires and NO sunroof or rooftop carrier.  I am very pleased to date with the truck as it does everything I want.

I test drove a Tacoma and did not like the seating position.  My legs seemed to go straight out whereas in the Frontier they are bent more at the knee.  I also liked the ride and power better in the Frontier.  The price was better as well for all of the features.  I was a full size Chevy pickup driver for many years and wanted a smaller but very capable truck.  I too did not consider the Canyon/Colorado trucks as there are way too many negative reviews on them and I just found them lacking in quality and ride.

Hi Frontyfan

Faster acceleration. I believe the Tacoma is faster 0-60mph but could be
wrong. I recently saw the acceleration times in an older consumer reports at
our local library. The Tacoma was faster 0-60 than the Titan so I assume a
Titan is faster than a Frontier. Toyota's (like Honda's) always seem faster
than others even though they have less HP. Just more efficient, useable horse
power.

My frontier is plenty fast and rides on a better frame than the Tacoma's.
Tacoma's have too much frame flexibility. I would like to drive a 05 Tacoma
with 200K miles on it and see how tight it feels?

My big gripe is MPG. With the heater on it just keeps getting worse. The US is
years behind the rest of the world with diesels. In South Africa you get a
Frontier AKA Navara (made in Spain I believe) with a 2.5 diesel that gets 30+
MPG and has heaps of torque. The Tacoma (a US only model) version in S
Africa is still a Hilux and available with a 3L D4D Diesel that is more efficient
than the Navara and has a lot more torque. There is an interesting article in
Popular mechanics about diesels being more efficient than hybrids and talk
of the 09 F150 with the Land Rover 4L Diesel.

If you are concerned about gas mileage be warned that in the winter with
the heater on the Frontier really SUCKS the gas. The Honda Ridgeline is rated
worse than Tacoma and Frontier but I cannot believe it is as bad as my
Frontier. I friend has a new Tacoma 4X4 4dr and I will check and see what
his gas milelage is like. Another friend has the old shape Avalance and is
getting 17.5MPG! I am only getting 19 so not happy. If you are not going to
put a shell on your truck then take a hard look at the Ridgeline. I think they
look terrible with a shell. Another thing to keep in mind is that Tacoma's
have very good resale because they are not discounted much. Frontiers can
be had for $100 over invoice here in Utah which hurts resale.

Well I like mine other than the gas miles as well! I only get 17 if I am lucky,  I was doing my math wrong before in saying 13-14. That is the best I get at 55 with cruise. I like you drive easy and I even put 92 octane with no change. I love the power and think it is comfortable. I have sustained a back injury while deployed in the military and normally find it painful/difficult to drive long distances but not with my frontier. I dont really no how to describe them they are stiff but comfy. I have always been one to believe that a truck needs to be 4x4 but it was a lot more and out of my price range. I got the 08 SE and I like it alot other than the control knobs are cheepy plastic. I am scared to put any pressure on them because the feel like they will break. I only have like 2000 miles on mine though I have had it like two weeks. Oh I did have one problem with the air bag light coming on for the passenger seat when it was not supposed to and of course dealer stated "nothing wrong there either because computer said so" Well  anyways hope your fronty keeps chuggin along problem free.
