I'm trying to decide between the 4 cylinder 2wd and the 4 cylinder 4wd 2008 Frontier. I'm wondering what the actual mileage is between the two. Most of my mileage is done commuting to work traveling between 50 and 75 mph. Any input would be appreciated.

OK, never mind.  I was  offered a deal that I couldn't pass up. I ended up with the 6cyl/4wd today. I'm still going to kick myself for a little while because it was one of those things I didn't "need" but always wanted. I could've continued along with the 4cyl/2wd like my Chevy s-10 was but driving the 6cyl was so much, I don't know, nicer? Anyway, it's done. Now I hope I get decent mileage.

Noreaster, just bought the same setup but a 2007 about 3.5 months ago.  Took it on the first fairly long trip for Thankksgiving and then deer hunting.  Just got home and the numbers for each leg of the trip are below.  To achieve this, I used high test gas and have changed the motor oil and the rear end fluid to Mobil 1 synthetic.  Each fillup was a real fillup, done til I could see the gas in the filler neck, not just to pump shut off.

Part 1.  Filled upo with a warm engine and drove 148.0 miles on a highway system that was almost all 4 lane.  Had two stop lights.  5.76 gallons used which equates to 25.7 mpg.

Part 2.  Left house where we had Thankksgiving and drove to my son's place about 40 miles away.  Ran around town with two cold starts when it was 20F in the morning.  Drove 101.0 miles under these conditions and used 6.07 gallons which comes out to just under 17 mpg.

Part 3.  Left my sons and filled up with a warm engine.  Drove 45 miles to deer camp.  Left camp once to go to eat.  Left camp today and drove home on 4 lane roads.  133.1 miles on 5.67 gallons which equals 23.5 mpg.

Iam very pleased with these numbers.

I just  figured my first mileage figures. The first tank of gas was a combination of driving around country roads and interstate. I've been trying to drive to get the best fuel mileage during this time. I ended up with 19.4 mpg.

I filled up the tank and did 161 miles of mostly interstate driving with the cruise control set at 72 mph and ended up with 18.4. These are better than I thought I was going to get. So far, so good.

If it was synthetic, it was fairly thick, not like the 75W-90 Mobil 1 gear oil.  But I always change this fluid out in new vehicles after  the first 1000-2000 miles to get rid of initial wear debris.

your mileage should go up after break-in.

and nissan doesn't make a 4cyl/4wd frontier anymore.

Sorry, I  meant to say 6 cylinder, 4wd, not 4 cylinder.

My Frontier has about 2800 miles on it now, I have been getting a consistent 21 MPG on regular gas mixed in-town and highway driving..... It is a 2wd 6cyl SE crew cab with 6ft bed.....
