Got a '08 Frontier CrewCab w/v6 LB. I was determined to get a manual shift even though there was only one 6-speed on the lot. ONE out of Ten was manual shift. Test drove it and liked the close ratios but never did put it in reverse. they ordered me one and finally put in in reverse backing into the driveway and killed the motor 3 time as I was used to the first gear ratio. Reverse seemed like 2nd gear speed, but going backwards. Why would engineers decide on such a high geared reverse? IMHO I would think drivers would want to go slow in reverse. I could probably go with a lower rearend gear but that would kill my mileage. Any suggestions? Thanks.

Not to sound like a dick but get used to it. Its not so bad. I've got an '06 and it took some getting used to but alls well that ends well. Haven't hit anything goin backwards yet. Knock on wood. Dont bother with gears. If you have a 4x4 that means two sets and a headache. 4x2, screw it if you do the rear, may as well drop it, get a supercharger and have some fun!!!

Your right, I'm getting used to it(or maybe I stratagize to prevent backing up) no matter.

I noticed the NISMO's have the optional 3.73 gears for the Dana 44. That would probably make the 6 speed's 1st gear a granny gear(it almost is already) and use 2nd to go and reverse a little better to use. I'll most likely leave it as is. I'm used to driving my Dodge with the NewProcess 4.35 tranny. All you had to do is drop the clutch in 1st or Reverse and you go SLOW!

                              Thanks

For some reason, it seems like you can go slow after the clutch is all the way out. It does seem like it takes a great deal of pedal to get the clutch all the way out though. Not very good for backing uphill as the truck seems to be on the edge of stalling. You get used to it, its not so bad.

Big difference with the 08's tranny or more of the same? I dig the tranny in my 06. Don't really see any downsides except the aforementioned and that doesn't bother me at all.

I love my reverse.  many times in the trail I've had to back up pretty far and having the ability to get some sort of speed was nice
