Well, I bought a set of skid plates from Courtesy Nissan in TX for both the engine sump and the transfer case.  Easy to put on with the bolts I bought through them along with the plates.  I added some anti-sieze and tightened just enough to be secure but not enough to strip the threaded holes in the openings in the frame, etc.

I bought these more for protection from stones being thrown up on gravel roads than actual "slide over rocks" protection.  (Had I wanted that level of protection, I would have bought the heavy plates from Shrockworks at a much higher cost.) I would like some thoughts on whether buying the Nissan-supplied gas tank skid plate is worthwhile since my tank on the 2007 Frontier is polyethylene, not metal.  Thanks in advance for your thoughts.

I bought and installed the gas tank skidplate from Nissan.  After taking the truck out into fields several times hunting and running over sticks, etc., I thought it was a good investment for some piece of mind.  I must say that I am impressed with the fit and finish of all of the skid plates.  Even with the arm that reaches up to the frame in the rear of the gas tank skidplate, the bolt holes line up exactly with the pre-threaded holes in the frame.  Good job, Nissan, on these parts.

Lakota, thanks for the compliment!  So far i enjoy this truck.  It is different than the full size Chevies I have driven for almost two decades but in a good way.  I like the smaller size, the power, the fit and finish.  Since I keep trucks about ten years, we'll see how this one ages.

By the way, what octane do you run?  This engine says 91 octane and I am now getting about 24 hiway with hi-test.  But how about regular or mid-octane on this 2007 V-6 Frontier?

..

Boomer;

... I haven’t used high test in anything in the last 15 years. I haven’t driven a 4.0 Frontier because I’m still happy with my ‘99. My 3.3 has had over 26 MPG at times. The last 2,000 mile trip was 22.5 with a little 4x4 low high up in the Colorado Rockies. I drove about 40 miles over rocks, creeks and and some 30 degree climbs up to 12,840 feet. I had to run a can of Lucas fuel treatment before that last trip as the engine was cutting out a little at max throttle and 4,500 RPM..

Corkscrew Gulch 17 miles north of Silverton just east of highway 550 and Red Mountian Pass.

Have a good one while you can still laugh about it.. Don S..

Higher fuel mileage? We need a government study to show the benefits of making ethanol from Marijuana and Agaves plants.

Alas .. Probably be more suicides from those trying to die by exhaust fumes.

I bought an '07 4.0 used and have been using 87 since I got it.  I thought that was what was recommended.

Darren, read your owners manual carefully.  The engine is set up to run on a recommended 91 octane.  I ran high test on a recent trip and did quite well, getting over 25 mpg on one leg of the trip.  Around town, I run two tanks of 89 octaneand one of hi-test.  On the road, hi-test.
