Never worked on a Nissan but with the new Frontier, I was reading that it requires a copper crush gasket on the oil drain bolt to get a good seal. Are these needed each time or can they be reused? I would like some opinions on this before I do my first oil change. THANKS in advance, guys.

Boomer;
I always change the oil and filter in my vehicles and rarely use a new copper gasket. I do it 'cause I know it get done correctly!
I have seen a drian plug fall out of a Sentra after about 500 miles. A commercial shop had done the oil change. The lady driving was parking the car just as the plug fell out and saw the oil so there was no damage.
I have J.B. Welded a small magnets to the drain plugs.
Enjoy the ride! And
Have a good one while you can still laugh about it.. Don S..
It would be nice if our members would add their vehicle information to their signature (similar to mine) plus add their City and State . A member in the same town might be willing to drop by and help you with a problem. Or drink all your beer!

Lakota, thanks. I am used to GM products and those don't use the crush gasket. I wasn't sure if failure to use a new on would result in the loosening of the drain plug. Never hurst to ask for advice from folks who know!

I reuse gaskets once, maybe twice. Haven't had any problems so far.

I know that the dealer will be happy to sell you copper crush gaskets but it'll probably be a stupid price for those things. I went to AutoZone and asked and they only had a total new drainplug...soooo..the last OCI, I bought one of their new drain plugs that they matched for the vehicle and it had some plastic/rubber gasket that was on there, not copper...it has worked just fine so far and am reusing it this OCI. I think I'll probably grab some new gaskets next time.

I change mine out each time.You need a pick to get it off the drain plug. Put the "threads" toward the flat on the drain plug. I hate the filter location on the 4.0L. PITA to change and not make a mess. I do use a drain trough but it is still a pain.

I've changed my oil in mine 2 times in the last 4 months, and I just unscrew it, drain it, and screw the plug back in. Always done them that way.

I cut apiece off an old naughahide fender cover that I pull over the Sentra exhaust to prevent oil getting on it from the filter. I still have enough grease zirks to keep me happy under my 1976 Wagoneer.

Well, I changed my oil and used a new crush gasket. I bought a pack of ten from a nissan parts source over the Internet. The old gasket came off fairly easily and the new onw one worked like a champ. NO LEAKS! Also, the oil filter came off with an oil filter "socket" wrench fitted to a breaker bar. Once I loosened it, it came right out. Interestingly, there is a little brass-colored ramp under the filter that directed the oil down and away from the filter and the sheet metal right into my drain pan. Filled the Frontier with 5W-30 Mobil 1 and used a new Nissan filter. Runs fine. Thanks for all your comments.
