I recently purchased a 2003 V6 Supercharged Frontier 2 wheel drive with 49,000 miles. My problem is the gas mileage "it sucks" 12 MPG. Can anyone tell me if I can disengage the supercharger to get better gas mileage. I dont need to remove it, What is easiest way and will it get me better gas mileage and most important will it damage the engine. Any advice would be appreciated.

No there is no way to Disengage the S/C other than trading the truck in and buying something that does not require super unleaded gas

I happened to find my 05 (non-supercharged), and came home to do some research on it before buying it. I compared it to the supercharged model, only to find the SC model had better performance, with bad fuel mileage.
Considering I don't need high performance, I went for what I got. I get around 21 mpg out on the highway with mine.......well, before I put the big mudders on it anyway, lol
Point is: ALWAYS do your research before buying it

It's my understanding that the supercharger is solenoid activated in that it diverts the air elsewhere other than the intake unless at WOT. In wide open throttle (wot) the solenoid then directs the supercharged air into the intake. Correct me if I'm wrong. I read this somewhere. It said Nissan did it this way so the motor isn't under added stress under non wot conditions and to help fuel economy. I've only had my sc truck a few months so I'm not positive.
What I am positive about is that I am getting around 17-22 mpg with my 2001 Supercharged model with 139k on the clock in all around driving with the AC on. So my suggestion to you is to have the truck tuned. Either something like a vacuum leak is occurring or IAC is messed up or a number of computer controlled sensors and devices can be wack and can effect fuel economy. Not to mention the old spark plugs and timing and ignition components that can cause poor running and fuel economy.
Dont try to delete the Supercharger. Get the truck tuned. Something is amiss.
Thats my advise. Good luck.
