 Hi from Australia.

 Sorry to jump on-board and hijack this forum, but I need some help with designing a better 'off road' air intake for my Nissan Xtrail (which I read shares the same qr25de engine as the KingCab 4x2)

 Can anyone please post some pics of the air intake of this engine. I am hoping it is better then our own system intake, which sits above the radiator and is prone to taking massive gulps of water, causing the dreaded hydrolock.

 Has anyone modified this engines air intake. I can't fit a CAI (even with a bypass valve), due to the risk of ingesting water.

 Excellent forum. Thanks.

is the QR25DE a diesel engine? most of our forum members here are in the US and not offered the diesel option, tho we do have a few members from australia and they might be better suited to answer that question as far as having the same engine as the Xtrail. However, I might suggest as a way to get by the issue you are asking about is installing a snorkel, especially if you're offroading is going to be taking you into deep enough water that you will have to worry about sucking water into your engine.

bas72;

Welcome to the Frontier group and thanks for your concern about moderation.

You are cool as far as I'm concerned as long as I don't have to enforce Australia’s gun rules.

 Sorry guys, should have explained it better.

  The qr25de is a 4 cylinder petrol engine found in your XE king cab 4x2 model, but some guys are fitting them to the 4x4 model for the better efficiency.

ah well if that's a petrol...er..gas engine for us yanks , then it is actually bigger and not the same as the ones we have in the US as ours are 2.4L, unless I am way off (wouldn't be the first time, and while i'm at it...let me welcome you to the forum as well since i didn't do it earlier) I still think the best way you could go would be to go with a snorkel if you are gonna be encountering water deep enough that a CAI would be giving your engine a drink. Also that air would be "cooler" as it is coming from outside the engine compartment completely before entering the airbox/intake system.

Actually the new Frontiers do use the QR25DE.  Same motor that is also found in the Altima.  Which they still haven't completely solved the oil issue with them.  They dropped the KA24DE when they started the new body style.

ah wasn't aware of that...wow dropping the KA24DE...but regardless...for serious offroading involving deep water, hard to do it w/o a snorkel

Oh yeah, big +1 on the snorkel.  Though he'll probably have to build his own.  Not too hard... a lot easier than welding on body panels.
