I have an '06 frontier xe 2.5L 4cyl and i've added a flowmaster along with the k&n filter. I was wondering if it would help or hurt anything to take all of the piping out that runs from the filter box to my fender and leave the filter box hole open so that the air goes directly through the filter without having to pass through all that extra piping? will that hurt or help my performance?

..

Hey.. weclome to the group!

I don't know... But why would the Nissan engineers waste so much money designing and installing all that stuff! It might have something to do with the ingestion of water. And remember more air intake means more dirt intake. Buy a couple of cans of cleaner for the MAF sensor... you'll be needing it sooner or later.

Have a good one.. Don S..

The tube goes in your fender to get colder air away from the engine compartment.

the piping is meant to get the cooler air in the fender which is protected from getting water as well by the fender well plastic.  One thing you could look at changing is the tubing between the filter box and intake manifold.  These usually have little chamber built onto them that is meant to reduce intake noise but they cause turbulence messing with the air flow.
