Many opiniions are out there. The ones that really matter are the people
that have actually used each type.
Shackles will change the pinion angle, which must be adjusted with a
shim kit in extreme cases. They allow more articulation and are dead
easy to install. But to get a lot of lift they need to be really long. You will
get 1/2 the lift height gain compared to the length ot the shackle (a 6"
shackle will lift 3")
A block is dirt cheap and heavy. They are also more dangerous sue to the
extra diswtance b/w the axle and the spring pack. Under high stress
(accelaration, offroad towing) the axle will want to roll out fromn iunder
the blocks. The only thing preventing it from doing so are the u-bolts.
Longer blocks mean longer u-bolts means more leverage means weaker
system than before. Even here some shimming to adjust pinion angke
may be necesary with high lifts.
Suspensiojn is a science in itself. There is al ot more to considerm, but
this is the basic of each vs. the other. Some concerns are negligible with
mild lifts (3" is considered mild).
