Yes it is, but the box design and air scoop is infinitely superior to using either a TRUE CAI (which puts the filter outside the engine bay) or the the usual setups which just use a heat shroud.
The box completely closes it off, and their scoops grab from the front of the vehicle, not the fender well.
Though I must point out, the Volant Box only becomes surperior while sitting still. When driving down the highway around 45 MPH, the Temperature in the engine bay is only a few degrees off from the ambient temp. Which why I stay away from the CAI that stick into fenderwells. They don't have as much air flow as the engine bay would. The scoop Volant uses also acts as a RAM scoop.
