whenever i'm able to afford one and then come along one that is in decent enough condition to buy i'm considering getting an old HB, prolly around 94-95 to use an an offroad toy project truck, however, when reading through other forums specifically for nissan offroad enthusiasts...i see a recurring complaint, lack of power, now i'm not sure if these people aren't using gears and stuff to help restore lost power to bigger tires, which they should do as the gained torque would benefit their offroad apps anyway. but knowing that the stock 3.0 V6 that was in those things..as well as the 4 banger, i think it was the KA24E if i'm not mistaken....thre are a ton of parts out there that would help gain power and more importantly torque for those apps...in fact when doing calculations, trying to be conservative with those calculations, i came up with these numbers, going through all the parts and additions that i've see available, granted these upgrades all together would cost you a pretty penny, more than 2000 dollars when all said and done but i have heard of peopel dumping that kind of money into their rigs anyway to buid them to where they want to be.

stock i think the 3.0 in those years was about 153 HP and 180 ft/lbs of torque

well after headers, new ignition, exhaust, intake, cam, and power module..i've calculated trying to be conservative in some aspects, but a final number of about 220-230 HP and around 250 ft/lbs of torque, now even if these numbers were lower, say around 200 HP and 220 ft lbs of torque this is still PLENTY of power to almost any off road crawling you want to do, and that's not mentioning switching gears on your diffs and transfer cases which would most likely benefit you the most rather than dumping a sh*tload of money into your engine, although i personally would probably at least do the power module just for instant flip of the switch gains, which on the venom module..they claim about 25% increase in power

also, i was doing some trolling through the forums of these nissan offroad sites and saw that the old diesel 4 bangers...i believe the TD27 (2.7 L 4-cyl turbo diesel) that nissan has used in their utility box trucks actually bolts up to the tranny in the old 4 banger nissans, interesting thought for a project eh? and supposedly engine mounts are same or easily modded to allow it to fit in the truck, don't know if any of y'al had heard about that or not, but i did find a TD27 on ebay for 2500, granted that is expensive but, well like i said just a thought as i kinda have had a growing interest for diesel and biodiesel possibilities, anyway like i said just some thoughts, what do y'all think and if any of y'all have had HB 4x4 trucks that you wheeled in...let me know what you thought and about any mods you did that yo thought was worth it

Well if I had one, I would definitely go with the TD27.  Plenty of torque and decent mileage... but a lack of aftermarket parts.  The VG30E motor has plenty.  (which stock puts out 170 HP, 185 Torque )

If you go with the VG30E motor... check out www.jimwolftechnology.com first.  They also have some items for the old KA24E.  BTW... a turbocharger has been successfully added to 3 Nissan Maximas with the VG30E.  The pistons are forged so need to replace unless they're bad.  You can also get some performance stuff here for the motor.  www.importperformanceparts.net
