I have a slight problem. I'm physically too weak to pop the cap off my gas tank. Go ahead and laugh (I am), but the fact of the matter is that I can't no matter how hard I try. YES I have read how to get it off and I've struggled, obscenely, frequently at the gas station and its humiliating. I often have to ask someone to come and take it off for me which is embarassing. Is there any thing I can get to put on there..an easier cap to remove or something? I'll take any suggestions.

For the record, I'm so weak and pathetic because I was a premature baby. I'm basically nothing but a skeleton with skin and no muscle or fat. (:   This complicates life so.

..

ShutUpandColor;

Welcome to the group!

... I bought a large mouth (big griping area) vice-grips to help remove all sizes of oil filters. These would also work well for removing fuel caps. A large size channel- lock pliers would also work.

Have a good one,  and CUL.. Don S..

Thanks a bunch; it's a rather embarassing difficulty for me. I hate asking strange men for help at gas stations.

Happy Thanksgiving~

I may have a more elegant solution for you.  I have 2001 2wd Frontier and just put a STANT trap door gas cap on.  I have had it on for about a month.  The gas cap has a trap door that swings out of the way when you push a gas nozzle into it.  I fill my truck every day, I drive 1200 to 1500 miles per week and this truck has a bad habit of spilling gas all over when you trust the auto shut off on all gas pumps.  I still have to slow down the flow for the last one or two gallons but it seems to work.  I have put over 5000 miles on the truck since I replaced the original cap.  The cap cost about $16.00 and I got it at Carquest.  The trap door must be aligned with the filler and you may need help with that because it took some torque to get it lined up.  It has worked fine for me so far.

Hey fishmonger;

I'm assuming this trap door lid doesn't cause a CE light to come on?

I checked the webiste briefly and they didn't mention it specifically but I'd assume this new setup works well.

I too have a tough time getting my gas cap off. I wonder about water getting in the tank if you're travelling in very wet weather.

Hugh

Well I appreciate the suggestion and I'll look into it, among other things. I still can't get it open and it's been months. I have to go to full service stations to have them take my cap off and I can't just leave it sitting on there, not screwed on, because my gas evaporates.

I HAVE A 2006 FRONTIER XE, AND I HAD THE SAME PROBLEM I BOUGHT A STANT INSTANTFIL CAP #41004 WHICH HAS A HOLE IN IT AND YOU NEVER HAVE TO REMOVE THE CAP TO FILL UP! IT WORKS GREAT!

I have been watching for the water problem you mentioned.  If it has been raining I see a few drops on the door but with all the alcohol put in gas these days, that would just be absorbed and burned with the fuel.  I do use a paper towel to remove the worst of it before I open the door on those extra wet days.  No CE light problems so far and it is a nice convenience.  The CE light might be activated if you forget to shut off the engine before you fill up.  I used to leave the car or truck running back in the dark ages of the 70s in winter.  I lived in Gunnison then.  Anyone in Colorado will know how cold Western State is.  Opening the gas cap will while the engine is running, will set off codes on most 97 or later cars or trucks today.
