It's a 99 XE King. It's actually in pretty good shape considering the mileage- 170,000. ('Pretty' being the operative word) But, Oh, it handles like crap. Cornering is not the problem. (Yes, it's been aligned) Going in a straight line can be an adventure, esp. when the road is uneven/ rutted. The problem is how unpredictable the steering can be. IMO, the Fronty has too much PS; there's not enuf road feel. Sure, I know it's a truck and not a sports car but it's getting downright dangerous. Now, the steering rod has a little play in it but before I run out and buy a new steering box, what else could contribute to the looseness of the steering? The steering wheel itself has relatively little play in it. Can  mediocre no-name  tires make that much difference? The shocks are new, BTW.

Check ball joints, shocks, springs, tie rod ends, even lug nuts

Oh...it's been awhile since I posted that. Turns out I had crappy tires! That was it. What's kinda funny was that I simply moved the crappy ones to the back and the new ones, which are relatively cheap "Scrambler" tires from Pep Boys, to the front. I've been driving a long time so......is that the emoticon for "sheepish"?...Anyway, it never dawned on me that what looked like OK tires could actually be that bad...Hell, downright dangerous!
