I have a 2006 King Cab with V6 and 6-speed. From between 72 and 81 mph (from GPS), there is a very pronounced whine that sounds almost like a siren . The whine is of such a pure, resonant tone, it is hard to tell exactly where it comes from, but I am sure it is behind me. At 75 mph, where I like to cruise , it drones annoyingly and causes a headache, so I end up going 83 or so (I can't drive at 70 in this truck <smile>), where the sound completely disappears..
It occurs only under load. It disappears as soon as I let off the gas and returns instantly when I touch it again.
It is a direct function of speed only. Changing gears does not change the noise pitch or volume at all. From 72 to 81 in 4th, 5th, or 6th, it sounds the same.
It not the tires, as road surface makes no difference.
I did not notice it immediately but well before I got 1000 miles on the truck, I began to realize that now that the glow of new truck has worn off, this could be annoying. I hopes it would go away as the truck broke in. I now have 15,000 miles on the truck (I travel for business a lot). The noise is the same.
Doea anyone else have this or have an idea of something else to check?
This forum looks interesting. I love my Frontier! I sold my 1993 Hardbody with 300,000 miles on it to get this truck. WOW! it has certainly grown up. I also have a '02 Quest Van and a '90 300ZX.
Thank you,
Walter
