good morning,
I am looking for some authoritative information if anyone has it... I have an 04 2wd club cab frontier manual trans. I may need top convert it to automatic for my girlfriend to drive. I know the mechanical end of this just fine... cross members, flex plates , drive shaft etc what I don't know about specifically for this truck is whether the auto that will go in here ( a used trans that ill get from somewhere ) will require any sort of electronic controls or if the ecu in the truck will need changing because it is programmed for a manual vs automatic. +the work i did on these trucks was all a very long time ago before electronic transmissions and i have never been under this one to even see whats there so i am trying to get some broad strokes idea of this whole deal. now... forgive me for this but I am not looking for any guesswork here. i need to hear from people that have actual hands on factual knowledge of this. as i said... the mechanical aspects are no issue at all... it is strictly the electronics or lack of them and how they either do or don't interface with the existing engine electronics that i need basic info on. also... if you have the parts kicking around to do this conversion, i would be in the market for them... and thx.

Sorry for the late reply...
Stick sifts are becoming relics just as push to start buttons...
WAIT... My 1946 & 1947 Fords I bought in 1950 had them.
A smart man would buy her a car with an auto.
Other than that buy an engine, tranny, electric, combo with running gear out of a wreck from that era.
I love my autos.. Don S..

that's exactly the conclusion I had already reached and bought her an older non cvc x-trail the other day. that was a lot less work.
