on a vg33e has anybody heard of or done a catch can to
improve mpg any? do these engines have bad blow by that
anybody has heard of? im getting about 10.8 mpg and my
plugs wires cap rotor only have 60 k on them. timing belt
also. did it all at same time at 100k. i have yet to hear
about bloy by issues but was wondering if it would even
be worth getting one and installing it.

i am running 32x11.50's and a flowmaster exhaust but i
wouldn't think it would kill it that bad. i know winter
robs mpg with colder temps but last time i calculated it
was back in summer and was getting 14-16 some where in
there i believe it was.

blow by catch can. its for pcv system. most commonly used
on turbo applications i hear the vq motor has issues with
blow by and installing a catch can helps. something about
the pcv system does not flow enough so plumbing in a catch
can kit helps and adds mpg.

Sounds like someone is blowing smoke!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Never heard of such a concern on a VG engine, very
reliable and durable, just poor MPG.

Speaking of mpg, I have to add that today I drove 188 miles and used 8.40 gallons of Exxon 93 octane which works out to 22.4 mpg.  This was at 60 mph almost all the way with two very short excursions off the main hiway, one to pull into a McDonalds and the other to pay to enter a parking lot and park.  I had 80 pounds of sand in the bed, tires inflated to 38 psi and the outside temperature never went over 25 F.  Fillup at begiining and end were on the same pump and filled the same way.

I have always felt over almost 7 years that this truck does very well in the mpg department considering its weight, 4 wd mechanism and auto trans.  And remeber, driving a pickup like ours is essentially like pushing a brick (with some rounded corners) through the air. I am unsure how a catch can would help.  I burn absolutely no oil between changes (Mobil 1 5W-30).
