My new 2006 Frontier has 3000miles. Last week the steering went out on it while I was driving it. When I called the dealer they said they were aware of the problem and towed it in. The dealer also told me that they have had 4 06's with the same problem in just 30 days. If you have have this model Frontier you should be very concerned, because Nissan Corp is as of yet not issued a recall and as far as I am concerned is not acknowleging that there is even a problem. Now I 'am certianlly no Rocket Scientist, but 4 at the same dealer in thirty days seems like a BIG PROBLEM too me! The dealer Service Manager also infromed me that Nissan used a low-bidder vendor/supplier for the defective part in question. A key indication that your 2006 has the problem is a wobblly steering wheel with times of the powersteering going in and out. I'm not trying to be an alarmist, but since Nissan isn't getting the word out on this problem I feel like I should. BTW, this a warranty issue and the dealer did pay for a rental, as this is my only car. Nissan Corp has also refused to pay for the "Rental Car Insurance"... I will buy Toyota after this truck is paid for..

Sad to say but Nissan's quality has been dropping since they entered the agreement with Renault.

I would be very concerned with the steering.  It not only effects your driving, but also the wear on your tires.  Bad alignment cause premature wear, forcing you to buy tires sooner.

Luckily it doesn't seem too intentional, unlike Ford's deal with using smaller tires on their vehicles.  Anyone happen to notice they also started their deal with Firestone around the same time?

I'am still working with Nissan Corp trying to get the 150.00 rental Ins... As for the dealer they are saying a recall should be coming soon--Whatever that means.

Apparentlly this part is in the steering column, and is a weaker part than was on the 2005. After a while (in my case 3000 miles) this part gets a flat spot on it (low bidder part) and then your wheel begins to stick or feels like the power steering is not working.

When mine broke the dealer said the following...

"The vehicle needs to grounded and is not safe to drive" That is why they payed to have it towed..

Well Nissan has shown it's true colors again.. They are refusing to pay the Rental Car Insurance. So lets recap.

New Nissan Frontier Crew Cab $20,000

@ 3000 Miles Steering Column Breaks, Nissan denies there is a problem and jacks me for 150.00.

Nissan, after jacking me for the 150.00 tells me what a valued customer I 'am.

THIS FOLKS IS OUR NISSAN

I see many lawsuits in Nissan's future....

i'm now reall concerned i took out my 06 crew cab le, really tested the wobble problem in my steering, there is diffenitly a problem. i have installed a complete front end on a truck also steering column and power steering unit and made mistakes, so i know when correct never did get it correct. this i can feel the steering slip forward a tad when lightly braking when coming to stop. also when i puched it while changing lanes it felt like a gust of wid sweep underneath me, and at about 55 there is more play in the steering wheel than at slower speeds strange. for a truck with only 1,000 miles on it sure is wobbly. my 2005 was tight at 1400,. i went to the dealership this morning, and told them my problem, they could not look at it because they were to busy, they had 1 guy that had complained about the steering wobble problem, that test driven a frontier that was the only thing he had heard. so i told what i had heard. i guess i'm going to check truck myself and drive slow until they check, and no mountain roads !!!

Have you noticed it being harder to steer, like the power steering going out? That was my first symptom. I only noticed the wobble after the fact. We got ours back but this could happen again before they do a recall and get a THE GOOD part... I feel like I made a huge error buying this truck. Hopefully this will be all of the major problems I have with it.. Good luck too you..
