We are the proud nerw owner of a 2004 Nissan Frontier Crew Cab. It's a 2WD, automatic. It's a nice truck with only 40K miles. One thing is bugging me: The truck dog tracks to the right. At first I thought my wife was imagining things. But I followed her and no matter how I tried to look at it, the rear end is about 4 inches to the right out of track with the front end. I don't see any signs of any accident on this trcuk. Everything is solid and does not rattle. The alignment shop checked all the numbers and things are all to spec. So what is up? Is this just a quirk of these trucks or what? I am a mechanic and I am familiar with the condition, but I have never seen it on such a new vehicle and with no signs of having been in an accident.

..

Have you measured various points on the frame to outer points of the rear axle for its alignment?

Good luck Don S..

I have made some preliminary measurements. It appears that the right rear wheel is about 1 to 2 inches further back than the left. Also, the left wheel appears centered in the wheel well and the right is noticeably further back in the wheel well.

Sounds like it's been hit by a slow moving train!!! I think
I would take it to an alignment shop that knows what they
are doing.

We have sent it to Manns Auto Body. Jason is the best. He ebelieves that the right spring is bent. The distance from the front of the axle tube to the spring perch is 1/2 inch longer on the right than the left. That is the only measurement that is off.

Is it possible the locating bolt on the spring assy has
broken off and allowed the axle to move?

I am sure that's possible, but it has not been discovered. If it is, I know Jason at Mann's will find it.

Did I mention this shop has done work for Jay Leno? I have talked to Jason and he has shown the pics of him and his dad with Leno doing work on one of Leno's cars.  Cool, huh?

I think working for Jay Leno would be the perfect way to
complete a career of turning wrenches. (just dreaming)
