Hi all, got a 2007 Frontier. was in the garage tonight putting air in my tires and with my ignition on ( car not running) I noticed a high pitched noise coming from the engine area but couldn't  pinpoint where.

Anyone have any ideas as to what that might be?

Oh, I should mention I turned my radio off and my thermostat fan off.

Thanks

If everything is functioning OK, don't worry, most likely
normal. They make all kinds of noises at times.

If the noise is engine speed sensitive, and sounds like a gear whine, it is your secondary cam timing chain tensioners. Do you hear it when you are in park and blip the throttle? The tensioners are made of nylon/plastic and get eaten away by the chain. The whining noise is the cam chain rubbing against the metal plunger that supports the tensioner. This is a known Nissan issue on the 4.0, especially 2005-2006. Unfortunately it's about a $1200 repair if you are not under warranty. I wouldn't wait too long on it, although I never found anyone that had broken a chain on the interwebs.
