Hello all, Ive got a 2004 Frontier S/C and it is making an annoying whitsle under load and under acceleration when the blower is making boost. It is coming from the engine somewhere and I've recently done the knock sensor relocation, so all gaskets in the entire intake system are brand new, every bold tightened in sequence to exact factory specs and yet the whistle remains. Has anyone else experienced a similar whistle and lived to tell how they defeated it??? I'm at my whits end! I am extremely mechanically inclined, I have ASE's, I understand how an engine and vacuum/pressure work and I cannot stop this thing from whistling and its really causing me to beat my head against the wall! The only thing I can conjure that may possibly be the problem is it does have an Airraid intake on it, which while I understand is meant to increase airflow, may actually be impeading airflow. I have recently cleaned and oiled said filter so its not plugged. And the noise was identical before and after cleaning. Any help any of you may be able to offer would be greatly appreciated before I start pulling out my hair!!!

Did you reconnnect the vac hose from the fuel pressure reg
that goes on the back of the intake plenum????

Yep, all vacuum lines were replaced with new hose and reconnected to their respective places using the vacuum diagram in the manual. Would it even run without the regulator hooked up? Certainly would fall on its face when you goosed it if it ran at all and this has no acceleration or running issues. Still gets to 60 in, near as makes no difference, 10 seconds and still pumping out between 8-9 lbs boost at 5500rpm. Just whistles dixie anytime you get a little boost going. I'm thinking it has to have something to do with the Airraid intake, it never did it when it was new, but perhaps with the 120k mi it has on it now there is a little more blow by happening, cause a little more vacuum to be sucked through the PCV nipple on the side of the blower, causing the whistle? I dunno, I'm just brainstorming, I'm thinking about throwing an old stock intake box on it and seeing what that does...

It would actually run better due to the fact of no vac
would increase fuel pressure.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but the ony time it would run better would be under full acceleration/full boost, right? The rest of the time, it would be recieving full pressure to the injectors causing an extremely rich condition? At any rate, I assure you the regulator is hooked up and that's not what's causing the whistle. Anything else you can think of??? I see you have KTM's too huh? I'm a 520 EXC enduro rider, go big orange!

No and NO. It will only increase the fuel pressure as if
you were accelerating and low vac conditions, not over
rich. All KTMs are sold, need to update my profile. At 56,
the last trip over the bars made me look at things in a
whole different perspective!!!

superchargers themselves whistle! check the gasket between the
supercharger and the engine block and the intake and the charger.
Recheck the gaskets and stuff. tighten them down if not torqued.

Everything was torqued to specs during reassembly after digging out the failed knock sensor. I've tried every conceivable thing I can think of to stop it from whistling and the conclusion I have reached is that it is a condition of an aging supercharger. It never did this when it was new and I have tried everything short of replacing the supercharger at this point. An dthis isn't a "normal" supercharger whistle, as some people refer to the "whine" a supercharger makes as a whistle, this is a whistle you would make by puckering your lips and blowing, a little higher pitched and completely separate from the supercharger noise.

Maybe a bad gasket somewhere then? did you/they use liquid or solid
gaskets? How does it change at high RPM and hows the exhaust sound? any
different?

I don't think so, I have checked all the gaskets and its not leaking vacuum or pressure anywhere that I can find. The whistle changes pitch as rpm increases and it only does it under load/acceleration when boost is being produced. The exhaust does make a funny whistle itself, independent and different from the enigne whistle, but is present under the same conditions, thoughts?
