I have 2000 Frontier and when i start it up it runs fine but when i put it in gear and start driving the oil light comes on and i hear a slight knock but if you cut it off and start it again i do not hear that noise until i start driving again.I have changed the oil and filter and oil levels are fine.Any ideas on what this could be.

Possible spun bearing, or oil pump failure. Does it seem to do it on every revolution of the motor or every other? Can you get a mechanic's stethoscope on the engine and hear anything at idle? If this occurs only under load, you might have a serious problem developing. Has this engine been abused? Has it been run with low oil? Is there sludge in the engine (oil screen could be partially blocked)? The oil light coming on with the noise means low oil pressure (duh) but the real issue is the cause. This needs to be checked out.

What weight oil are you using?
How many miles on it?
