I have 17,000 kms on my Frontier. I owned a 2006 SE Crew...so I love the truck. But, my 06 went through 8 EVAP Cannister units in its 77,000km life and my 09 has gone through 3 already. THIS IS FRUSTRATING.

Is anyone else having this issue? This last time they put in the new version (super duper improved)...well u guessed it 3500 kms later "service engine soon" light comes on...and another EVAP bites the dust...the dealer says...its the type of use my truck gets...he must mean, because I drive it...

Frustrated in Regina SK Canada

I LOVE MY TRUCK but I think I am going to try a full size domestic...

Do you drive on dusty/dirt roads? Is it the canister or the vent control valve that is being replaced? Have they installed the filter kit? (which is not really a filter, but a canister with a baffle that just slows the dirt down a little). Under severe conditions we have run a hose up under the hood and installed a GM style valve cover breather for a filter, works great.

On my 2006 they sold me a filter kit that was supposed to slow it down. It did nothing to lengthen the life of the valve or the cannister but it cost me $167...it cost me...its not my fault you designed a poor piece of equipment.

They have not tried to sell me another filter system for this one...they can pay for it and put it in but it doesn't work. They have replaced both pieces of the unit.

As for which piece...could be valve, could be whole unit, I cant get a straight answer from them...if they want to run a line up to the engine compartment go right ahead...

Umm...I dont consider my driving conditions extreme...my province has the most gravel roads in Canada...its just driving to me. But the most recent valve was replaced Dec 2009, one oil change and less than 5000 kms ago of city driving, cause the gravel roads and such were filled with snow...

I LOVE MY TRUCK...but I am getting tired of this...real tired...I was told by the service manager and writers and sales man that Nissan had solved the problem with the design of a new part, well...it did not work very well...

Any other tips would be greatly appreciated...
