I have a '98 frontier that has been making a noise when I rev the engine. When I change gears and let off the gas pedal the sound goes away. To me it sounds almost like something is vibrating. The noise is not coming from the actual engine that I can tell but I can here it best from under the truck. Any Ideas?

Can you describe the noise? Loose pipe/muffler maybe?

It's a kind of high pitched whining noise that goes up and
down as I drive through the gears. I was out looking at
the exhaust manifold and noticed a small section that has
possibly rusted through by one the bolts that hold on what
looks like a heat shield over the manifold. It has broken
away in a circle around the bolt. I'm guessing this is the
noise. It's a vibration that I hear.
