While driving up a mountain road, my 2001 Frontier V6 SE Crew Cab started to shake and lose acceloration. If I continued to press the gas pedal, the engine with shake a bit and the check engine soon light illuminated.

The light would blink vs staying solid. The incline was fairly steep and was windy so I couldnt get above 30-35 mph or out of 3rd gear for about 4 miles.. I've taken this same route plenty of times but never experienced this! As usual, once I reached my destination, I noticed a slight chemical burning smell after I got out of the truck.. I figured it was the transmission just overworked..

Later that night, I was on the freeway traveling about 70mph and the same thing happend above with the check engine soon light, but once I got over the incline (very slight) everything went was back to normal..

Any Ideas?? New transmission?? Please no!! :-/

What are your RPM's when this is happening?

Does it feel like the tranny is slipping? Is it Standard or automatic? Best bet would to scan the diagnostics for the trouble codes which would tell you why the check engine light comes on. Possibly U joint?

The flashing indicates a misfire. Do not ignore this or you will destroy the cat/s if you haven't already. Like davidbradley says, get it checked quick!!!!< id="gwProxy" ="">< ="jsCall();" id="jsProxy" ="">
