1998 Nissan Frontier, 4 cyl. 5sp. 4X4

Check engine light is on and I had a Haynes book for this truck but do not know what happened to it. The check engine light came on a few days ago, the truck is still running just fine. I need info on how to get the code so I can find out what is going on. Also, where can I find a list of codes for this truck?

Thanks Very Much

Thanks for the info. Another question: How can I get the code without some fancy equipment? On some vehicles there are two pins that can be jumped and then you read the flashes of the check engine light. Can this be done on my Nissan? If so, which pins do i need to jump to get the code?

Thanks Again

Do you have an Auto-Zone or Advance Auto near you? They will scan for no charge. Just don't let them sell you their aftermarket stuff they think will fix it!!

Try tightening your gas cap.  You apparently have a leak in the EVAP control system.  If that does not do it, try replacing the cap.  Past that, look for cracked hoses in the EVAP system.

Sorry tried to copy and paste some info, didn't work. As Boomer says, check your gas cap(make sure it is a genuine Nissan cap) and the filler tube where the gas cap seals(no rust). Possible dirty or sticky VCV, cracks near  the attaching nuts in the canister for the VCV, leaking VC/V bypass valve(due to rust), lots of possibilities.
