I am just about ready to take the 2003 frontier to a pro....

First 0456 code came up  and then 0455 followed after clearing.

I replaced the gas cap with OEM Nissan

Check the evap. vent control (it opens and seals up fine with voltage.

Checked the Purge control that also checked out.

Any other thoughts appreciated

VEHICLE ????????? believe it or not, there are specific fixes for specific codes and vehicles. That's why it is VERY IMPORTANT to let us know what you are working on.
Sorry didn't see it in the first sentence.
P0455 is Evap gross leak -you mentioned the VCV is working when you jump it, but it also needs to be tested in active test with the Consult 2 to verify signal to operate the valve is ok.
P0456 is Evap small leak - dirt in the valve could cause this. Also, I have seen the canisters crack at the mounting nuts for the VCV.

I have this problem also was driving today and it felt a little heavy then normal then all the sudden my check engine soon light went on. Went to autozone got the code PO455 bought a cap from them thinking it might be my cap but this is an aftermarket cap so I am going to try to get an OEM tommorrow. But anyways if its not the cap how can I fix the EVAP or what do i do next???

Need to check the VCV to see if it is operating. Best way is with the Nissan Consult 2, as this will do an active test, which verifies if the circuit is ok or not.
