Hello,

So my 1999 Frontier (6 cylinder, auto-lock 4x4) front hubs tore themselves up. I wasnt aware of the correct (retarded) procedure for using 4x4 and now the hubs need to be replaced. It looks like the auto-lock hub assembly is not serviceable and must be replaced as a whole unit, so...

My questions:
1.  Can I swap this over to a manual lock hub without much work? Looking at the parts breakdown on Courtesyparts website, its just a 2 different parts to use on each side? Is it that easy?
2. Does the manual locking hub hold up better than auto-locking hubs?
3. Are Nissan OEM manual locking hubs good enough, or should I go with aftermarket?

I live in Alaska, so we have 7 months of 4x4 being necessary due to the snow and ice. I need a dependable 4x4 system.

Any suggestions are much appreciated!  Links and part numbers are very helpful too! :)
Thank you,
Tim

Give me an e-mail address and I'll send you a picture of the parts for the different systems.(Hopefully it will work, haven't been able to copy and paste to this sight, but i think I can e-mail them to you).
It is possible to convert.

I have a 2001 Frontier SE Crew Cab and was curious if a set of manual hubs would be worth the effort and if there is any noticeable change in fuel mileage.

My auto hubs seem to be ok but I am not against going to manual hubs if they are worth the effort.
