I am running Bosch double platinum in my 01 2.4 and it has run good for a while till recently and seems to hesitate on acceleration.  I've been told that the factory NGKs PFR5G-11, are by far the best plug for these engines.  Any opinions?  These are expensive at 10 to 13 a piece depending on where you look.  I suppose you pay for performance though. I will probably order a set and take back these Bosch to Advance Auto.

..

2001FrontierXE;

It may not be the plugs. It may be carbon build up on the plug and in the fuel injectors… It happened to me, I fixed it and still have the factory plugs.

 Carbon build up increases the compression ratio and will glow as the engine heats up. Ether of these can cause the pinging. Carbon build up can also foul the EGR system. Carbon fouling the plugs and/or injectors will cause an engine miss while under power.

If you have a carbon problem there are several ways to combat carbon.  #1 Run a full tank full of Chevron Premium gasoline with ‘Techron’. #2 Add 8 oz of Pennzoil 2 cycle out board oil to twenty gallons gasoline. #3 Do A Seafoam treatment. http://www.nissanfrontier.org/forum_posts.asp?TID=2510&P N=1

BTW... I run the great  Bosch  plugs in my '76 V-8 Jeep... best plugs and I've tried many!

Have a good one while you can still laugh about it.. Don S..

By November many of us will not have the money to buy gasoline to go vote!

Lakota,

   Thanks for the advice.   Does an autoparts house have this stuff or do I have to go to a Marine place?  When I pulled the plugs today, they were pretty black, so I think you are right Carbon is the issue.

Typically, if plugs are black, you are 1) running rich; 2) burning oil; or 3) running too cold a plug.  I don't know much about your engine but I would be somewhat concerned about the black plugs.  Carbon can cause the spark to ground through the carbon layer and misfire the plug.  At the very least, I would change to the brand that came in the engine.  If these get black, I'd go up to one grade hotter plug.  But do you burn oil?  Is there a black  emission from the tailpipe?  Is the inside of your tailpipe black and filled with carbon?  If so, you need to find the root cause of this.

Seafoam is at most parts houses. I've used type A tranny fluid and even water ln place of ti to get rid of the carbon. Boomer is correct... try to find the cause. Mine runs just a little rich but I haven't hit the computer with a BFH... yet!  I've been using Lucas Fuel teatment lately... it seems to be doing the job.

Remember a lot of things can help cause Carbon build up... like a fouled air cleaner.

Have a good one and see you later… Don S..

It would be nice if our members would add their vehicle information to their signature (similar to mine) plus add their City and State .

A member in the same town might be willing to drop by and help you with a problem. Or drink all your beer! One took my wife!... J/K

Not burning any oil.  I have recently installed a univeral air intake at the end of the factory box.  I cut off the end, mounted a new housing for the air temp sensor and the filter after that.  Should not be clogged. I have installed the Nissan plugs and only driven it some.  It seems to run a bit smoother and has some pickup.  I've also added some fuel K44 intake cleaner to the tank.  I am wary of hydrolocking the cylinders by the other methods.  Thanks for the advice I'll keep an eye on these plugs and look at them end of next week after a few miles of driving.

I have oil dripping under the motor, on my 2001 Frontier. I was told by the dealership that I needed a NEW Oil Pan, and they would have to drop the Tranney to accomplish this repair, at $751. Does this make any sense?
