I'm used to A/C not coming on, but this one has me scratching my head.  No matter whether the A/C button is in or out, the A/C is on.  And it stays on wherever the air is pointed.  Only if I turn the fan off, then it's off.

I noticed in previous posts the TCV seems to cause some funny workings.  Any chance it could be that?  Or maybe I need a new climate control module?  Any thoughts are greatly appreciated.  Thanks.

In the past, the logic behind Nissans A/C systems - once A/C has been selected and the comp engages - it is on regardless if the A/C switch is on or not. The only way to cancel the comp. being engaged, is to shut the A/C switch off-then shut the engine off and the comp will be off untill def is selected or the A/C switch is on.
Or you could wire in a toggle switch to shut off the comp. when not needed.

A/C COMPRESSOR OPERATION DIFFERENT FROM EARLIER MODELS

This bulletin has been amended. The Applied Models have been updated. No other content has been changed. Please discard all previous versions of this bulletin.

APPLIED VEHICLES:
2003 - 2006 Sentra (B15) - with manual A/C
2003 - 2004 Altima (L31) - with manual A/C
2003 - 2004 Frontier (D22) - with manual A/C
2003 - 2004 Xterra (WD22) - with manual A/C

SERVICE INFORMATION

Vehicle owners may report the A/C does not turn OFF at times.

Even though the A/C switch is OFF:

^ The A/C compressor cycles.
^ There is slight idle speed fluctuation.
^ The outlet air temperature is cool.

The above conditions may be normal.

There have been HVAC system improvements and design changes.

^ These changes affect the way the A/C compressor operates.
These improvements help reduce window fogging by dehumidifying the air.
For the Applied Vehicles in this bulletin:
^ When a defrost mode is selected (either "defrost" or "foot/defrost"),

and

^ the outside temperature is more than 36 - 37°F (2 - 3°C),
^ the A/C will remain ON with the Mode Control Knob in any mode position, even if the A/C button is OFF.
NOTE: The A/C indicator light will not be ON, when the system is operating as described above.

It seems a little over kill to not have it go off just to stop the windows from fogging. My windows still fog up...A LOT! But I do live in south louisiana where the humidity horrible. The defroster cools off the air so much that it makes the outside of the windows fog up. Then I have to put the heater on the defroster to get rid of that. If I want to turn the A/C off to save a little gas, it should go off when I press the button.

Could I cause any damage if I hooked up a toggle switch? If i turn the comp off when its supposed to be on, would it effect the ECU and how the engine runs?

A lot of guys just install a toggle switch to shut off the comp when not needed.
