Look closely at your brake calipers on your D40's. Got 28K on mine and my axle seal took a poop. Didn't notice for a while apparently, cuz when I finally noticed it was almost too late. Fortunately, there was no explosion in the rear before it was turned in to Nissan. Lucky me, it happened while it was still under warranty. They did some investigating and found (just before I was supposed to get it back) that the axle and rear diff were almost destroyed. Its hard to notice unless you are looking, no puddles or anything under the truck,in fact my wheel wasn't even oily. Just want to give a heads up. And may I add, Nissan's customer service has been nothing shy of the pitts. No loaner car, no matter how much I kick and scream.. They've had it for a week already and they say it'll be at least 4 to 5 more days. Arrrghhhh!!!! WHY DONT DEALERSHIPS HAVE THE PARTS TO FIX THEIR VEHICLES??????? Happy Happy Joy Joy....

Mine is in the shop for the same thing only difference is mine occured at 65K miles and is going to cost me $500, not to mention that my u-joint is also going and this requires an entire drive shaft replacement which by the way is another $500. This is all in addition to the $500 I spent in June to fix the vent control valve and the clutch fan that went at 50K. I won't even get into how many times it has been in the shop prior to these issues, but will say that a letter to Nissan Consumer Affairs has gotten me nowhere, except a copout excuse of the vent control valve and the clutch fan are "wearable" parts and Nissan was not willing to reimburse me. I'm waiting on the answer regarding assistance with the rear axle seals and the u-joint. It's a 2005, give me a break.
By the way K&N air intake made my gas mileage worse so far:-)

What a nightmare. Sounds like your truck was built on a monday after a long holiday weekend... Nissan sent me a survey after the repairs were done, BOY DID I RIP THEM A NEW A@# HOLE!!! Guess where that got me... Not even an e-mail or an offer for a free oil change or something.. You'd figure they'd try to make right for their crappy service. At least it didnt cost me anything @ Nissan. Good luck dude, sorry to hear you hate the Nissan service "policies" too, but nice to have someone in the same boat. Hope you get some dough out of these dickheads @ Nissan but I wouldn't hold my breath.
Anything but K & N !!!

Yeah I think I finally found a dealer that cares, so far they are paying for the drive shaft replacement and I took them all of the prior workorders from the dealership in Cincinnati to help with my arguement on the axle seals. But like you said I'm not holding my breath on that one, I was surprised by the drive shaft decision.
All the postings seemed to say K&N would help. I can't win.

Thanks. I thought I would update you I picked up the truck yesterday, they covered everything. Axle seals, bearings because they were rusted, and the drive shaft. I think it help that I took all 10 of my previous work orders into them showing them I had taken it to two dealerships prior to the warranty running out with concerns of the rear end. It may have also helped that I mentioned lawyer. Who knows, let's just hope my Fronty is back to normal now.
I like it to much to trade for something else if it isn't.

Let me ask did any of you guys notice a grinding at higher speeds prior to you taking your vehicles in for service? My truck started to make a grinding feel a week ago (Just as the temps droped) traveling at highway speeds. It feels like I have 4 wheel drive on at highway speeds. Could this be the same problem a leaking axel seal? My warrantee is almost up so I need to take it in ASAP I just want to know what to tell them to look for. They are not the brightest mechanics. LOL

djruss84;
... You might check the balance and wear on the tires. The rubber gets harder with age and cold. I replaced my tires because the tread got so hard the stopping traction went away even though there was still lots of tread..
Have a good one while you can still laugh about it.. Don S..
Higher fuel mileage? We need a government study to show the benefits of making ethanol from Marijuana and Agaves plants.
Alas .. Probably be more suicides from those trying to die by exhaust fumes.

Brand new tires like a month ago. Also had them balanced to perfection and an alignment. When I first got the tires they were misbalanced and this is a completely different feel.

My advise is take it in before the warranty and let them know what you are experiencing. (At least get your concern on a work order that's what really saved me, I had it in to two other dealers prior to this last time, but my brake mechanic is the one that found the problem?) But if I were you I wouldn't take, "everything's fine" as an answer especially if you don't think they are good. I've found it's all really the dealer not the mechanics, just personnal experience.
Good luck.
