Some automatics do not shift as well with cold oil. The torque converter may be draining slowly with hot oil when parked and slow to refill with cold oil.
... I would recommend doing the '30,000' mile service and changing the transmission fluid. My ‘99 V-6 4x4 automatic transmission only had a window screen style filter and a simple clean-out of it would be sufficient. The simple drain and re fill only changes about 5 quarts so some people change it a second time after a 1,000 more miles. Remember it’s the additives that wear out even if the transmission has not been over heated or abused.
... It is fairly easy to do yourself. Measure all that was drained and refill with the same amount. Then after running it to heat the oil for expansion check and add more as needed. When reinstalling a steel oil pan make sure the bolt holes are level with the lip and not dimpled. I do not trust the 'lube places' to do the work on my vehicles. Most do not pay enough to get qualified help.
The Amsoil website has instructions on how to do a complete oil change.
Have a good one while you can still laugh about it.. Don S..
It would be nice if our members would add their vehicle information to their signature (similar to mine) plus add their City and State . A member in the same town might be willing to drop by and help you with a problem. Or drink all your beer!
