 I have a 2007 frontier se (with 4WD) I put 20x9.5" Rims on it. Now i know the TPMS is suppose to have the monitors in the tires like the stock rims. BUT...my aftermarket rims dont. Now wen i get on the highway, between 45-60 I hear this LOUD hum. No its not the tires, yes im shure. Would this have anything to do with the TPMS?

im not sure if you realy know how just replacing tires can affect its ride characteristics... even if you put differant tires on your stock wheels... a differant tred pattern, or a differant compond in the rubber can change its sound... thats why when you buy tires, they have a road noise rating... larger rims generaly mean smaller side walls on your tire aswell... this is another reason that some of the sound would be lowder. maybe a better thing to do is ... tell us what type of rubbers they are, and ask for feed back on that tire, or get some info on its Statistics or other comperable reveiws...

..

Beantown Brawla;

Welcome to the group!

I agree rippdogg13 is saying and would like to say it another way.

... Tall wheels with low profile tires have one advantage over the smaller wheels with high profile tires and that is a little more lateral stability in high speed maneuvering.

... High profile tires like a 32 inch tire on a 15 inch wheel have a far superior spring rate for better ride comfort, better traction on trails, and ‘aired down’ can prevent getting stuck in dry sand. Another big plus for high profile tires is much less damage to tires and wheels on roads with pot-holes and debris. As a whole 15 inch tires and wheels cost less for the same overall size.

... All Terrain treads will add a humm to the noise level. Mud Terrain treads add a bit of a roar. And the truly aggressive treads howl and in most cases will vibrate your seat!

My 1934 Plymouth was equipped with  17 inch wheels and low profile tires… we’ve come a long way…

Enjoy the ride! And

Have a good one while you can still laugh about it.. Don S..

It would be nice if our members would add their vehicle information to their signature (similar to mine) plus add their City and State . A member in the same town might be willing to drop by and help you with a problem. Or drink all your beer!

I just put the Maxxis Buckshot Mudders on my 05, and I got lots of humming now on mine. Ofcourse, I like it though. Quiet exhaust, loud tires, heck of a combo
