I have a new 07 SE 4x4 crew cab long bed manual that feels like its
getting blown around by the wind at highway speeds. It does not hold a
straight line well and needs constant correcting. Nothing major but more
noticeable each time I drive it. If the road surface is flat it is OK but any
camber gets it off line. Test driving it in Salt Lake City I only drove down
the interstate which is very flat and did not notice it. Now reading about
the 06 steering problems I now wonder if my 07 is also susspect. Please
let me know if anyone else has experienced the same symptoms.

Otherwise I like the truck and with 80% hwy driving got about 21MPG on
my first tank of gas. I spent the last 6 months in South Africa and too bad
we do not get the 2.5L turbo diesel in the US which gets over 30 MPG!

This forum appears to be really inactive for some reason, but I have the same problem on my four month old '07 XE. I'm thinking about having the dealer check the alignment to see if it can be toed in more to possibly correct this. Nissan is good for one free alignment in the first 12 months of ownership, so it won't cost you anything. Incidently, I have seen this complaint surface on other Frontier forums; so we're not alone.

Same problem on my new 07 SE with less than 600 miles on it. What did
the dealer say?

i felt the same on my 06 nismo, But i also came from a 01 honda prelude that handled like it was on rails... To me it feels like a jeep. The stearing rack has a tight ratio and the Stearing wheel is rather small for a truck. I got very used to it now having the vehical for a year.

I took it on the interstate for the first time last week and at first I thought
that might be the probem since I came from a car too. But other trucks I
have driven do not do this. I thought I was going to get a DUI since it was
all over the place. No problems at all on the local roads but once I was at
50-60, I was fighting it.

This is a repost..from

http://www.nissanfrontier.org/forum_posts.asp?TID=558&PN =1&TPN=1

For those that are not in the know...

... The three major settings for front end alignment are caster, camber and toe-in

Caster is a setting that helps the front wheels to return to going straight after being in a turn. Normally the caster is set by tilting the turning axis of the wheel a few degrees to the rear at the top. Too little caster and the truck will want to wander especially on flat roads with little off camber for rain drain-off. Good front end mechanics are hard to find!

And remember, not all service writers are experienced mechanics.

When the alignment is properly set the vehicles are supposed to slightly drift to the right.

A. Most highways are built high down the center so that water and spills will drain off.

B. If a driver falls asleep at the wheel the vehicle will drift to the right away from oncoming traffic.

If you have a serious pull to the right it can be corrected by a good front end man. Been there done that

Have a good one while you can still laugh about it.. Don S..

Most of the countries we import our food and goods from hate our guts… do you think for a minute they treat the food and merchandize with loving care? Globalization Sucks for the average American… but our enemies, and big business, and our politicians love it!

Dealer checked this issue out on my 07 SE today. The tire pressure was
at 40 instead of 35. The caster and chamber were slightly off towards the
low end. They had to order some adjustable camber bolts to fix the
alignment but the service tech stated that this would not affect my issue.
Does anyone know if this is true?

Could be...did you check that the wheels are aligned?? If someone test drove it before you did they may have hit a pot hole or rock or maybe when they were unloading it from the trailer i could have smacked a tow hook and caused the wheels bulge and the pressure to drop from the recommended setting. On mine, it would kind of turn to the side a bit and you would constantly have to adjust it. This was because the previous person that had test droven it had hit a rock but the dealer hadnt told me untill i found out by checking the steering and the way the wheels looked. One was a little flatter than the rest and had a pretty small gash that you had to look very close to see it. Also the toe angle for the rear wheels was a little out of place

I have noticed the "wandering" with my 07 Crew Cab also.  Was going to wait until the tires are worn in a bit since I only have a couple hundred miles on the truck.  But just constant small steering adjustments in some cases....

07 SE that now has about 1500 miles on it. I noticed the same issue the
first time I put her on the interstate. Brought to the dealer and they have
never heard of this issue. Tires overinflated and an alignment was
needed. Both issues corrected but it still wanders. I noticed that it was
OK on a smooth road but if the interstate has bumps or expansion joints,
I am all over the place. There will be a for sale sign in the window soon.
