I have a 2000 Nissan Frontier, 2.4 liter engine-2 wheel drive. When I started the truck this morning,it jugged and lugged trying to start and eventually got going. Gas smell was intense. MAybe runing too rich.

My service engine light had come on less than a month ago on a return trip to CA. Took it to the shop and they reset the service light with the analysis showing a knock sensor and EGR sensor triggured.

Although the service engine light has not come on again. I am trying to decide what is going on now. Realize the plugs are recommneded to be changed soon, but feel this is not the root of the newly happening problem. Could it be something as simple as cleaning the fuel injectors or replacing the fuel filter , which has not been done in quite a while, even though I have requested it at the shop. They always tell me the fuel filter is fine.  I have 120k miles on my truck now and have lost my mechanics whom I trusted emphatically and I do not want to start putting parts on that may not necessarily need replacing.

Could a clogged fuel filter or to much build-up in the fuel injectors contribute to the Knock or EGR sensor trigguring as the problem?

What does this have to do with removing a logo?

Anyways a bad EGR valve will create many problems might want to see about getting it replace. A knock sensor alone will not trip the CEL but the EGR will. For the fuel filter look on the passenger side frame rail right behind  the cab and for cleaning the injectors put a can of Sea Foam in the next time you fill up that should clean the injectors.

..

jeannette;

Welcome to the group!

I moved your post. Hopefully we may get more responses here. It sounds like the problem could be sticking injectors. The injectors can be fouled with carbon and then other things can get fouled because running rich creates even more carbon.

hintonl's Sea Foam idea is good  or I would try using 'Techron' additive from a chevron service station. The Sea foam might cause excess smoke to come out the tail pipe. It could also be that some of the injectors are worn out.

Have a good one while you can still laugh about it.. Don S..

There was a time when some people got rich buy providing a better product at a lower price.Now they get rich by ripping us off and paying off the politicians. Can you spell DEREGULATION
