Hi Everyone!
I am a first time poster to a Nissan forum and had a question for the
resident experts (or anyone in the know). My exhaust manifold in my
1998 Frontier cracked, and I've been trying to locate a new one.
Problem being, it's the California Emissions manifold and therefore
$900 to replace. I was wondering if you knew of any cheaper way to fix
my particular problem, perhaps if a swapover is more effective (i live
in Connecticut).
Any ideas would be helpful to me.
Thanks,
John

If smog testing isn't an issue for you. I would look into aftermarket headers. This will help the engine exhale better, as well as being a cheaper alternative than buying a manifold from the "Stealership"

The thing Im wondering about is possibly having to reconfigure the
computer, or causing it to function poorly because of a swapover. If I
have to get a California emission manifold, does anyone know a cheap
place to get one?

Exhaust manifolds can be welded depending on where the crack is. I've seen it done on tractors with gas and diesels for years.

Hey I have the same exact PROBLEM!!! I just haven't done anything about it. i've tried ordering a couple different ones but they don't work cause they aren't the california emissions style. So have you found out what works to fix it yet? i have a 98 XE, 4x4, 2.4l, 5spd.
