Hey, hows it going.  I recently purchased a 99 se-v6 king cab 4x4 for 6,000$.  An outstanding deal. and have been very pleased.  It conquers everything I throw at it.  I have to admit I really like the truck matted with the 5 speed manual.  It feels real strong.  Well I have one simple question.. When I purchased it the rpm gauge didn't work properly.. Basically it is just wrong.  For example, when I idle it says im reving about 1700 but from the sound I know im not.  Also when crusing at around 50 mph it says im reving 3,000rpms and again I know im not.  Based on that Im guessing its off by roughly 1,000 rpms. My main question is this.. If you happen to have the v6 with the 5-speed 4x4.. When crusing on the freeway at 75 what is the engine reving?  I would like to know.  When im going 80mph it says im reving almost 6,000rpms. Also, do you guys know the top speed? If my inference is right then that would mean im reving 5,000rpms, but thats outragous.  From the vibration it does sound likes its reving high but now that high.

NOTE: Crusing = in 5th gear
Thanks, James

..

Welcome to the group.

... Tomorrow (Friday) I’ll check my tach/speed. And get back to you. My ’99 is like yours but mine is automatic.  The differential are 4.62 in the V-6 automatics. It’s possible that the gear ratio has been changed. But that won’t explain the RPM at idle.

Have a good one, and Carry on with the insanity..   Don S..

This won’t help you much but I got to check mine out today. I have BFG KO AT 31x10.50x15 on my V-6 automatic and they are about one inch over stock. At 60 mph it’s 2,200 rpm and at 70 mph it’s 2,600 rpm. This is in overdrive with the torque converter locked. I think I would need to add 2 to 4 mph to the speed to be correct. Checking the speed by mile markers seems to make that true.

EDIT:

The 4x4 V-6 automatics have a 4.62 gear ratio. The Manuals 4x4 V-6 has somrthing like a 4.3 gear ratio

Have a good one while you can still laugh about it.. Don S..
