I've got a 98 frontier XE 4cyc and my windshield washer won’t spray fluid. My wipers work fine, I cant spray any fluid. I can’t hear the noise it makes when it used to shoot the fluid out. I’m assuming I have to get a new motor. Can someone verify and if so, let me know if its a easy and inexpensive job
Thanks

vfig;

Welcome to the group!

... On vehicles that old elements in the water and washer fluid can coagulate in the lines and in the impeller of the pumps. If the impeller is locked up the motor can burn-out when power is applied. In the past I have managed to clean an impeller before the motor quit.

Have a good one,    and CUL.. Don S..

Is it easy to replace the motor? How do I find and clean the impeller ?

Thanks

A lot of things can prevent the washer from working.

I have not had a windshield washer problem yet with any of the six Nissans we’ve had. But I’ve replaced one motor and cleaned several units in other vehicles.

... The w/washer is behind and below the driver side head light on our ‘99 Frontier 4x4. Look up from from the bottom.

... If ours was not working I’d first remove the little black hose at the bottom of the storage bottle (by the pump motor) and blow through the hose to see if it is free flowing. If the hose is OK I’d reverse blow the pump hoping to clear any sediments that might be locking it up. Then suck the contents from the bottle. A kitchen ’baster’ might suck it out good enough.

... Then get someone to operate the washer lever in the cab while you are close to the pump to listen and find out if it’s running. If it’s still not running check the electrical plugs for corrosion. One of the connections is very close to the pump. A multi meter should show if currant is flowing to the plug when the washer lever is operated in the cab.

replying to lakota, I've had problems with my washer not flowing turns out the line was frozen in the location described, at the bottom of the tank.

Another problem obviously not to do with this case is worn knuckles on the control arm for the driver side wiper. Its a long steel arm with plastic knuckles on either end, If ya haven't changed this part you will, its only about 20.00 for the part and takes about 5mins to change.

it was the motor, it was all rusted out and cracked. There wasnt enough room to get my hands in their to swap out. Instead of wasting hours and blooding my kuckles, I took it to my mechanic.  $40 for the part, $30 to my mechanic and I was good to go.
