I've got a 01 V6 Frontier Desert Runner, along with a 90 Talon TSi/AWD that I take to    the track every once in awhile.  I've always made it home with the car from the track without having to call a tow truck, but you never know what's going to happen sometimes.  I was wondering if my Frontier would be able to handle a "rescue mission" like that?

The Talon weighs under 3000 lbs, and I would more than likely be using a U-Haul Auto Transporter to haul it on, since I don't own a trailer.  Anyone have an idea what  one of these transporters weigh?  According to the manual the truck has a Max Towing capacity of 5000 lbs.  So if the trailer is 1500 lbs or so, it shouldn't be a problem?  Well supposedly it shouldn't.  Anyone ever used their truck to pull a load like this before with their truck?  I imagine the truck can do it, I just don't want to kill the damn thing trying to make it home.  Thanks.

Cool cars.

But to answer your question, it shouldn't have any problem at all w/ that Talon.  Even if you want to play it safe, get the trailer that only pulls the front wheels and let the rear wheels drag.

Thanks.  Same goes to you.  I really want an EVO myself, but then I'd probably have to sell the Talon and GVR4 to be able to afford it.

Went to U-Haul today and according to their database the Frontier should be able to haul the Talon and their transporter as long as there is a reciever hitch rated for 5000lbs unassisted.  The guy I talked to, said that their transporter weighs in at 2000 lbs.  Figure somewhere in the neighborhood of anywhere from 2500 to 3000 lbs for the car, and you're pushing the Max towing capacity of the truck.  The next time I go to the track, I need to get my car weighed and see what I'm playing with here.  I might have to look for another truck if it feels like I'm stressing it too much.

I would use a tow dolly, but I really would like to avoid the hassle of having to disconnect the driveshaft going to the rear end to tow the car.

Haha yep.  I totally spaced it on the towing only the front wheels part lol.  I have no idea what I was thinking!

If you are to be towing it on a regular basis pick up a auxillary trans cooler to save the tranny, not neccessary but good added insurance. Since you obviously looked in the book you know to turn off your overdrive. (Just fyi the auto carrier you are asking about weighs in at 700 lbs)

Cool.  I wonder why he told me 2000lbs?

I ordered a hitch yesterday, and I'm doing some research on tranny coolers right now.  Thanks for the help.

B&M makes a great trans cooler , another comes from painless wiring. As far as his 2000lb weight on the trailer, not likely alumninum does not weigh as much as steel. aluminum decks on the trailers.
