For anyone interested in securing a bicycle in the bed of your Frontier or Titan visit http://www.courtesyparts.com/frontier/D40_utili-track.html  The kit basically turns one of your tie down cleats into a handy bike carrier. The example picture on the web site might mislead you into thinking bikes can only be mounted sideways in the bed.  This is because the bike they used has handle bars that extend beyond the front fork, and the roof of the truck would prevent the fork from seating.  The mount WILL work on the front bed rail.  I just tried mine out with my mountain bike and it works great.  A tiedown strap to hold the rear tire in place and your all set.  The set is kinda pricey, so most will be happy just laying their bike down in the bed, but this will keep your bike from getting bounced around and possibly tore up.

Can you mount the cleat to one of the floor tracks?

It would make a lot of sense if you had a cap.

Even with the locking skewer, can someone still unscrew the tie-down cleats? If so, any ideas on how to completely lock down the bike? (well, the fork at least)..

btw.. first post.. 2nd day frontier owner

That looks slick ....... but I used two of the Nissan bed cleats on the front
bed rail to support a Yakima round bar which then carries the fork
mounts for two bikes, as well as two Yakima wheel carriers. The old
Yakima towers from a gutter mount system provided all the parts to
adapt the round bar securely to the Nissan cleats. Only expense for the
whole system was to buy a replacement set of cleats so I'd still have 4 for
normal tiedown use. Maybe I need to post a photo some day? Tom

I know I'd like to see it.. So, the cost is ~$45x2 (replacement cleats) and the yakima round bar (i tried looking this up, but have no idea what it is)

I need to find out how to post photos...... or I could send privately I
guess. The Yakima bars are available in several different lengths. Best is
to find an old system on eBay or locally that has the Yakima gutter mount
towers with locks - You need one bar and 2 towers, plus the fork mount
apparatus - one for each bike, and wheel carriers as an option.

did some checking into Thule stuff    www.thule.com

Their website is hard to navigate but I found these two items.

#822 Bed rider which is a telescoping rack that fits across the truck bed.carrys two bikes.

#821 Low rider which is similar to the Yakima setup. You'd have to fabricate your own bracket to marry the low rider to the Frontier's cleat but it shouldn't be too hard. the braket comes with the skewer and a base with 4 mounting holes it appears to be cast.

I'm waiting on a Leer cap so will investigate the low rider option so I can put my bikes inside and not have to lift them up onto the roof or cap.

I went thru a bunch of other options with the sport rack dealer that
carries Yakima, Thule & other stuff. I even bought a pair of block type
fork attachments to adapt to the bed track... none of those options were
as straight fwd as the one I ended up using. My round bar is the right
length to just fit inside the bed with a bit of clearance, but they can be cut
to length too. Tom

Here's another bike carrier that hooks up to the Utili-track system, and it's all in one unit, for about $35. It is called the "Rocky Mounts Clutch SD Bike Rack for Toyota & Nissan Pickup Trucks" (whew!) I ordered mine through orsracksdirect.com.
