Hey guys I have a 2001 Frontier 2DR Regular cab RWD.  I am moving across the country from the west coast to Florida.  I am wondering how much trailer I can pull.  It would be ideal to pull a 5x10 trailer.  Is this wise?  What other recommendations do you have?  Thanks a ton!

Welcome to the group...

It all depends on the weight and aerodynamic drag verses speed.

... Factory towing capacities are a theoretical average of many factors! The big one they can not account for is how hard, fast and long you are going to push the vehicle. The extra load in the truck will be hard on the axle bearings.  Long uphill grades are going to create tremendous heat in the engine and all of the drive line. Down hill grades really do not help much because you need to use engine-braking and the brakes.

... The auto transmission fluid will need to have extra cooling and best if it’s not put in front of the radiator. Make sure the trailers tongue weight does take too much weight off the front wheels of the truck as that controls most of your stopping ability. I don’t think it’s a go idea to pull a trailer that weighs as much as the truck and you sure should have trailer brakes. Goose-neck trailers drive better.

Have a good one while you can still laugh about it.. Don S..
