I have a 2000 frontier with a V6 and a towing capicty of 5000 pounds. i purchased a 2001 fleetwood pioneer camper with electric brakes that weighs 3100 pounds. Has anyone had any problems pulling this type of weight with their nissan.
EDIT, MOVED: Welcome to the group..
Sorry but I had the move your post.
If it is an automatic be sure to add an external cooler

Good question. I'd like to know this too.

1900 lbs below factory/D.O.T. guidelines..........I see nothing wrong with it, and you've got plenty of extra weight to spare.
I agree with lakota in your edit, ad an external cooler for the auto tranny, if not allready equipped, it will keep things alot cooler and help keep the tranny fluid from breaking down.

I just bought a 2007 NISMO, but before that I had a 2002 S/C King Cab. I pull a 5500# GVW travel trailer with a weight distribution hitch. This was the supercharged model, so it had more oomph than the standard 3.3L engine, but I only had problems on the steep hills. I don't think you'll have any problems with 3300#, but don't expect to be setting any land speed records, and don't try it without a decent brake controller. It's a bit of a PITA to wire up the thing, but it's totally unsafe without it (read: dangerously unsafe, i.e. you will not be able to stop in any reasonable distance, and the last thing you want to see coming down a steep hill is your trailer passing you...)

Be sure to check your tongue weight limit. For my 05 Frontier NISMO, it's 600 lbs. I'm currently towing a Fleetwood E2 with a tongue weight of about 550. I think I'm pushing the limit.

3100# is pretty light for a travel trailer.... I doubt he's got over 250# for tongue weight with that unless it's badly unbalanced. I used to tow a 2700# Shasta without any weight distribution at all and it did ok... bounced around more than I liked, but not out of control.
I think you'll be fine; just keep in mind if you haven't towed before, your vehicle is a totally different animal when you're pulling something, and don't be suprised when you're dropping gears on the hills.
And try not to have a coronary when you see how much you're spending on gas.

My 06 CC drops gears pulling a 1600# T@B trailer.
Gas mileage goes from 20-21 mpg (imperial gals) to 14-16 mpg. so a 30% drop.

that's a light trailer... my mileage usually drops by 50%, but then I'm towing something heavier than the truck.

IMHO...
Aerodynamics and higher speed with lousy aerodynamics are the largest contributaters to poor fuel mileage. I used to drive new and used cars hooked up with tow bars. With a matched pair of new cars hooked together the fuel mileage only dropped by 10%. The second car is drafting the lead car ala the Daytona 500.
... When towing heavy loads heat is the enemy that will sneak up on many vehicles. Longer periods of the extra power required to move the heavier load will make all the gear boxes and exhaust manifolds very hot. I highly recommend mounting a HD Transmission pre-cooler and NOT putting it in front of the A/C and radiator cores. The use of synthetic gear lube should be considered .
Enjoy the ride! And
Have a good one while you can still laugh about it.. Don S..
It would be nice if our members would add their vehicle information to their signature (similar to mine) plus add their City and State . A member in the same town might be willing to drop by and help you with a problem. Or drink all your beer
