Hi everybody,

I'm headed out west in a few weeks and I have a trailer but I'd like to try and do without it if at all possible.

2007 Nissan Frontier kingcab w/ 5' bed

My FZ1 and an Aprilia Falco (a little shorter WB than FZ1)

I'm going to try and load them tomorrow (dry run) and see if we can eliminate the need for the bike trailer. This will allow for a little higher highway speed...we'll have a 20-24 hr drive just to get to Denver/Steamboat area.

I'm thinking we'll have the tailgate down and the bikes positioned 180° relative to one another (one headed in the same direction of the truck and one reversed).

ANY TIPS ON GETTING THE FRONT WHEEL STRPPED DOWN FOR THE BIKE IN THAT IS REVERSED?

ALSO TIPS/CAUTIONS AGAINST TRAILERING W/ TAILGATE DOWN?

ANY OTHER TIPS WOULD BE APPRECIATED!

thanks for all the help guys...what an insightful and highly charged forum.....

FWIW- we did get both bikes in the back using a 3/4"x4'x8' piece of plywood (notched to fit inside wheel wells) to help distribute the weight across and away from the tailgate which must be left in the open position.

Just saw this, I was asking the same questions a few months ago.  I met with a little more success than you though.  Try doing a search, but overall the general idea was "Sure, it should be no problem" of course, I have the long bed 6' so the tailgate is not in question.

Good luck,

let me know how you make out.

As to the front tire issue, if you use a canyon dancer I don't think you need to worry about it.

You can get two bikes in facing the same way. On my 01 KC i have had my 636 and a GSXR750, 636 and 1100 shadow, and 636 and 1100 Sabre. All facing the same direction. There is little room between the ends of the bars and i recommend tying the fork legs between the triples together and then thying down the rest of the bike. With the triples together, it basically becomes one wide bike. My bed is 6ft and the sabre was the longest bike and thier was about 6 inches from the end of the tire to the end of the gate. But they all fit. The bed is plenty wide enough.
