Hello all,
I'm planning on moving from Sacramento, California to Charlote, North Carolina. My plan is to tow it with my 2004 Frontier c.c. xe. I don't have a hitch on my truck yet but will soon get one. My questions are can this be done? what type of hitch is recommended, and what type of weight limit am I looking at? Any help would be helpful. One more thing my crew cab is an automatic?
Thanks.

Class 3 hitch you can tow up to 5000# I would recomend a Transmission cooler also. The truck should not have any trouble pulling that trailer.

the REAL question is (one that U-haul will ask you) is if it the I-4 or V-6 AND if 2wd or 4wd?

U-haul will not rent you a 6x12 if you own a 2wd, or have the I-4.  The funny part is, it can haul it, I did it with mine.  BUT, it wasn't very fun.  The weight will cause the front end to lift, though the tires still touch.  And you have a lot more weight to try and brake with.

For the hitch, I agree with the Class III.

Thanks for your replies. I couldn't reply earlier because it wouldn't let me log in at work. I will look into the Trans cooler.
Thanks.

yes your truck shouldn't have any trouble towing that since it's rated for 5000 lbs, however don't just look into a tranny cooler, take the advice and actually get one, your tranny will thank you for doing that long distance hauling

Here's an update, I purchased a trailer. It's a 6x10 and I bought me a class 3 hitch and a factory wire harness from Nissan since it a direct plug in. It was pricy though but I want to do everything the right way, since I'm going to be pulling it a great distance. I willalso get me a Trans cooler when I get the funds. I still have a few months till I move. Thanks for the advise!

Pay attention when you load the trailer.  The items should be  loaded so the tongue weight is at or under the listed tongue weight for your truck.  A common number is 200 pounds.  I see rental trailers every day that have been loaded so the tongue weight is way over what it should be.  To check take your old bathroom scale outside put a wood 4x4 cut to the height of the hitch, on the scale and put the tongue of the trailer on the 4x4.  The common mistake is people put all the heavy stuff up front and make the trailer unbalanced.  Last winter I saw a front wheel drive car with a trailer just spin the front tires when he hit a small hill  5% grade.  He was not even close to the angle going up to Eisenhower Tunnel.  Poor guy had his wife and little girl and they were all freezing.  I had to call him a tow truck just to get down the hill safely.  The Tow truck was a buddy and we split the cost because he was Military and was moving with short notice orders.  This is very dangerous because your brakes are almost nil when the front wheels are that lightly loaded.  Not to mention the overheating the rear tires go through.  Sorry to sound like a wimp but I have been first on the scene for too many accidents.  Good luck on your move.

Must have enlisted recently, or had been used to the military moving his stuff.  After being an Army brat all my life, and now in the military for 5 years, I can load a U-haul and trailer in my sleep.
