Just bought a 2019 Frontier SV King Cab with V6. It's my
first Nissan and my first post about it.
I got a new thin metal key for it that would be less
obtrusive in my pocket. It opened the doors and turn on
all the lights and gadgets, but wouldn't boot the
starter. Not even a click. So, I joined this forum and
read all the posts about key problems: transponders,
anti-theft systems, etc. New stuff to me. So, I tried the
thick Nissan key I got with the truck. It turns
everything on and activates the solenoid and starter, but
the engine won't catch. The starter just grinds away, but
the engine won't start.
Also, during the diagnosis part of the above process, I
removed and had the battery tested, thinking that might
be the problem. The battery turned out to be very weak,
so I installed a new battery.
After reading the forum threads I suspect that something
in the anti-theft system needs to be reset. Am I on the
right track? If so, what is it and how can I get it
reset? If not, any thoughts?
BTW, the truck ran great before I tried the new key.

Davo,

As you learned the Nissan OE Key has a Chip in it. I've
been warned not to use a non Chip Key to Try and Start My
2013. Something has to be reset if the Non Chip Key is
used.

I would advise Contacting the Nissan Service Manager and
get his advice before proceeding. The Grinding sound's
like something else may be wrong as well, but The Service
Manager should know more what to do.

He may recommend getting a wrecker. If so I would
recommend a Flat Bed Wrecker so that something else isn't
damaged.

Good Luck,

Davo,

Sometime's We All have to learn the hard way.

One thing that has helped me a Lot is Reading the
Different Nissan Frontier Truck Forum's. Not all the
post's are Helpful and Some will send Folk's down a Money
Wasting Modification's Trail that will also Reduce Resale
Value. But Some have problem's that help Steer me away
from makeing the same mistake's.

Vehicle's are getting more and more Electric and
Electronic, which mean's more complicated to me and more
Studying to try and cope with the ongoing change's.

Reading and Studying the Owner's Manual as well as
downloading the Genuine Nissan Service Manual has helped
me a Lot.

Stay with a Genuine Nissan Oil Filter, use the Correct
Fluid, Correct Viscosity for All Fluid's and Oil's is
advised. They are listed in the Owner's Manual.

Good Luck,
