My '99 Grand Cherokee was equipped with hood lift struts and they quit lifting in a year. They have many sizes of replacemnets at Pep Boys but I just use a piece of tubing to hold the hood up. The lifts on the rear door are still good because it's much cooler back there.

And the lifts on my '99 camper shell rear glass are still good.
